Answer:
My ladder is not handy. Therefore I do not know how they feel (loose as you say). They do not operate as though they are loose. It takes quite a bit of pressure to operate the pins - even when there is little pressure on them. With lots of pressure on the pins they are almost impossible to operate. If you have not already purchased the ladder, It (the 22 foot version) is quite heavy.

Answer:
There needs to be some play or the pins would be too tight to adjust. Once they are in place I don't have any concern over the stability of the ladder.

In step ladder configuration, which is the maximum working reach height, 15 feet 1 inch or 13 feet for the WERNER Model MT-26 ladder?

Please note: The difference of 2 feet is critical to my application. There is conflicting information as to maximum reach height between WERNER website (15 feet 1 inch) and responses seen at here (13 feet). I tend to agree with WERNER site as given the standard rule of 4 feet above maximum Model MT-26 step ladder height of 11 feet; you would arrive at approximately 15 feet.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 1636 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Space-saving and versatile My wife got this for me as a present with our new house and i use it a lot outisde... From hedge trimming, to pruning high branches to working on the roof or gutters. It is a bit heavy and a little hard to pull out of my small shed but its compact size is great. Folding it back down is a little tricky as the locks click in the 45 degree (step stool) mode and i have to unlock it again. I can also reach all my gutters except one spot of the house where it is about 2 feet short. I really enjoy this product especially since i have a small shed and no space to store a ladder outside or inside. September 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Solid, versatile ladder at good price I was looking for a ladder to paint a stairwell, which of course takes different length legs, but also get something that would serve other purposes - like cleaning my low-handing gutters or washing windows. This ladder fit the bill. It's also very well made and came at a very good price, compared to other prices I saw on line. Only drawback is lack of fold-out tray to place paint or tools, but you can buy that as an add-on if you really need it. Stair steps could be slightly wider too, but that's just nit-picking. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for fat people! I'm like 65" tall and weigh 253lbs and i use this ladder to get on the roof of my 40' race trailer. It doesn't bow or bend or sway. Love it! September 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just what I needed... Well-made ladder. I am using it extended all the way as a permanent attic access. The position locks are robust and it is working well for me. September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best step lader I've used Nothing to assemble. Comes ready to use. Minimal packaging. Adjustment controls are designed to keep fingers out of the way of moving parts. September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Makes Me Taller I stood on the ladder. I was able to reach higher. 5/5, would stand on it again. September 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just what I needed. I needed to repair the roof at the house and the ladder was just what I needed. It is easy to transport, extend to the desire height and it converts back to a small size for easy storage. The r.ungs are properly spaced for comfort and ease of climbing. Very easy to extend and achieve different heights or comform to the needed shape. August 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great ladder Ladder is easy to use and the multiple positions are great for a slope next to the house. August 30, 2016
