The pins in the latter feel very loose. Are they designed like this?

Answer:
My ladder is not handy. Therefore I do not know how they feel (loose as you say). They do not operate as though they are loose. It takes quite a bit of pressure to operate the pins - even when there is little pressure on them. With lots of pressure on the pins they are almost impossible to operate. If you have not already purchased the ladder, It (the 22 foot version) is quite heavy.

Answer:
There needs to be some play or the pins would be too tight to adjust. Once they are in place I don't have any concern over the stability of the ladder.

In step ladder configuration, which is the maximum working reach height, 15 feet 1 inch or 13 feet for the WERNER Model MT-26 ladder?

Please note: The difference of 2 feet is critical to my application. There is conflicting information as to maximum reach height between WERNER website (15 feet 1 inch) and responses seen at here (13 feet). I tend to agree with WERNER site as given the standard rule of 4 feet above maximum Model MT-26 step ladder height of 11 feet; you would arrive at approximately 15 feet.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 1662 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Versatile Ladder This is a very useful ladder. It's very strongly-made and has nice widely-spaced feet; I never feel at all unsafe when I'm on it. Most of the time so far I have used it as a small step ladder, but I've also extended it to reach the raised ceiling in one of our rooms and opened it out into a regular ladder to climb onto our roof. I particularly like the ease with which it adjusts and the solid feel of the adjustment latches. You may need to be aware that it's heavy, but I guess that's a by-product of its strong construction. I have no regrets at all about buying this ladder. It's a quality product that I'd completely recommend to others. October 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by easy to operate, feels sturdy. October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just what I needed! I don't know why I waited so long to buy this ladder, it gives me all the flexibility for use on stairs, change to an extension ladder, or use as a conventional ladder. This ladder is easy to adjust though a little heavy for me to move about as an extension ladder. It has already paid for itself; my daughter and I used it in her two story house to hang new curtains on the stair-way, trim branches, and touch up trim paint. Great value, very sturdy. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A must have! The multi-position ladder is a great tool to have. October 18, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by A bit more unstable than I expected, so I returned the ladder. October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Werner quality I've used this product and ladders like it ( other sizes) for years on the job. Recently retired, I decided that I can't hop up on the roof off my six foot stepladder safely (don't try this at home!) any more. Any Werner product is well worth the money. October 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product Good ladder, nice product, well to use, for all the family September 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A nice ladder for home and yard I like how this ladder serves as a stepladder and an extension ladder. I do not anticipate using the scaffolding function, but it's there if I want it. I will say that when in extension the ladder feels a bit unstable compared to a traditional extension ladder. Worth the price and easy to store. September 20, 2016
