Answer:
We do not suggest separating this ladder and using the base section as a straight ladder for safety purposes. The ladder was not manufactured to be used in this fashion.

The max working length on the D1328-2 is 25ft. The max working length on the D1332-2 is 29ft. Depending on your height, you should be ok with the D1328-2.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This is a Great Ladder ! I bought this ladder last weekend to clean and fix the gutters and fascia boards on my 2 story home. I have a 40 ft ladder and a 16 ft that I’ve had for a while. I purchased this 28 because the 40 footer is so hard to handle. Well this is the best ladder I have ever used. First off I can handle it by myself. Secondly it is easy to extend and lower because it slides easy and the clamps work perfectly. Thirdly is very sturdy and handles my 220 pounds with no flexing. The ladders I have are aluminum but older and I think the newer ladders are better designed. I am very happy with Werner and would highly recommend this ladder. PS. We used it to also clean my buddy neighbors gutters and he went out this weekend and bought a new ladder….because he didn’t want to be outdone by me! lol November 17, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product!! I would recommend to any one to buy this excellent Werner ladder without hesitate. February 18, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Werner 27 ft aluminum extendion ladder This ladder is a quality product for the metal portions. Feels sturdy and non-saggy even when fully extended and loaded to 250 lbs. Plastic end caps could be more substantial to take more of a beating that these long ladders are typically subjected to. Rope should be immediately replaced with a woven cotton or poly brand as the twisted strand that comes with it routinely gets stuck in rhe pulley block June 30, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good sturdy lightweight ladder. Light and durable. No issues with it so far. Aluminum 28' is much easier for one person to handle than a fiberglass ladder. August 25, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Structurally good but a few dollars more going into it would make a much better product Would rather say "yes and no" for would I recommend. Main problems are raising and lowering the extension. The rope quite easily gets stuck in the pulley housing. Coming down, the catches are supposed to swing out of the way but often catch, leaving the ladder and user in a precarious position. Suggest getting better quality if going to use an extension ladder regularly. July 14, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Product but user be aware! This ladder is indeed well worth the price you pay. But, you need to be aware that due to it's length and weight it can become difficult to manage. Just to give you an idea, I turned down the offer of HD personnel on assisting me with loading it onto my the roof of my truck because I knew they would not be there when I needed it to be off loaded. Now, I'm a big guy at about 6' 200 lb but yet that ladder if not handled correctly, could cause someone some problems. It's highly recommended that you have someone to assist you. But, if you're like me and know that it's either I do it or it's not going to get done, then you need to be sure you balance the ladder carefully before moving it as well as having it planned before raising it up. I'm pretty sure that as I age and lose continue to lose strength, they'll come a time when I'll no longer be able to move this ladder around and raise it to it's maximum recommended height of 28'. But until then, I shall enjoy it and will not ever in my life have to buy another ladder. Thanks HD for selling this product. July 20, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great ladder I was looking for a double ladder for my roof. Found a great deal for it June 30, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good ladder, bad rope. This is a good ladder, and as a roofer for the last 25 years I know a thing or two about ladders. The main problem is that when lowering the ladder, the rope tends to track off of the pulley get stuck between the pully and the bracket that holds it to the rung. You are left to either "walk" it down with it stuck in an extended position or push it up to the next rung, lean it in and climb up to the pulley and unjam it. This has been a problem since I bought the ladder, and has happened with nearly all the Werner ladders I have purchased. I seem to remember back in the day that the pulleys were made of METAL, not plastic. April 22, 2013
