Customer Questions & Answers

Does this ladder come as a kit, with the frame, the door/opening and the pole to pull the ladder down with?

Asked by: Toddie
The ladder, a spring-assist arm, screws, twisting door-latch, door hinges, mounting template and a grabber-pole are included, no frame or door (no wood).

I see the required opening is 18 x 24, but it does't show which side is the longer side?

From the picture, it looks like the side on which the ladder rests is the shorter side but I can't be sure.
Asked by: monamona100
The dropped door shows the long side -- the ladder needs the 24" to drop down, so 18" wide, 24" length running towards you. Darn.

Weight limit

At 230 lbs, I'm not the lightest fellow in the world. This unit would work for me, but it would limit what I could carry up. Does Werner sell a similar ladder (telescoping, non-scissor design) with a higher weight rating?
Asked by: TDL7
To relieve the excess stress of my weight, plus the item being stored, I am installing a bracket and pulley directly above the attic access. With a long enough rope, I can raise and lower items from the floor or the attic, and... the weight will be cut in half by the pulley

I see that the minimum height is 7', but my barn ceiling is only 79'--is there any way to make this ladder work?

Asked by: Scootnsail
If you are putting this in a barn - for safety reason - spend the extra money and buy a better quality . for things you put up top in a barn you need a heavy duty attic ladder with frame.

This ladder is a great concept but... -The aluminum is lowest quality/rating 250 lb type I instead of 375 lb type IAA quality/rating. -The tracks on the hinges are cheap plastic/nylon stuff that the aluminum will probably cut through at some point leaving someone stranded in the attic or stuck on the floor or possibly even injured from a fall. -The aluminum on the ladder is easily dented and bent out of shape esp. in shipment. Track doesn't work once the aluminum ladder is bent or dented. - Too narrow - width of ladder is only about 12 inches wide which doesn't give a women's size 10 flat foot much room to climb without getting tripped up. - Assist pole is too weak to assist.

Was a great choice for our small attic entrance. Only recommendation would be for a better pull down handle/pole design. I have 9 ft ceilings and the small handle which is attached to the assist pole doesn't grab the ladder very well while it's stowed away overhead and makes pull down of the ladder somewhat difficult. May have to fabricate a new handle myself, but I would recommend this product.

This is an incredible design, perfect for using on the edges of my two storage lofts. I got two, one for each separate loft. There is no frame, so it installed easily with just a few screws, and is really easy to deploy then put back up. Really nice not to have to use up floorspace for stairs or a ladder. I give this an AAAAA+!

Finally I found a attic ladder that fits the small access hole that I have to my house that was built in 1911, without changing the size of the opening. It doesn’t hold very much weight, but all I store are xmas decorations, clothing and things that I only occasionally use. Very happy!!

Aproximately 3 hrs. It comes with the hardware for a nice access door. Mine is made of cabinet quality wood. The hook n pole work great to open door and pull down ladder. Great idea.

The telescoping aspect of this retractable ladder is perfect for areas that won't accommodate a typical two-fold attic ladder. I replaced such an old folding (wooden) ladder in my garage overhead entry to the attic. Now, I no longer have to move a car to use the ladder. Hard to beat the price, but know that the ladder is NOT very rugged and not designed for everyday use. Also, when pulling the ladder down for use from the attic entry hole, the ladder lists to one side a bit. This is due to somewhat flimsy material in the ladder and also to the design of the spring loaded arm anchored to the floor in the attic. It just does not support both sides of the ladder equally, so it lists to one side a bit but can be straightened easily as you sit the feet of the ladder on the floor. One other thing. The ceiling in my garage is 9'6", too tall for using this ladder as is. I knew this but really wanted the telescoping design. So I had to build a 1' base which must first be put on the garage floor just before extending the ladder for use and upon which the extended ladder feet rest. This works fine but obviously takes some doing to have it be safe, secure and durable. Also, I now have to store this 1' base which is a little heavy but I am okay with that
