Answer:
Yes. I did it with my son who is 18. I used an aluminum extension ladder and slide it up into the attic. I secured with a few screws and then my son pull down ladder and I climbed down onto a small 6 foot step ladder.

Answer:
Yes, you can install it yourselves. I recommend careful preparation, i.e. making sure the ceiling opening has the proper dimensions (means less shims), and get the support pieces in place in the exact spot they need to be so you can open the door.

I suggest shiming but not nailing the end opposite the hinged end to keep ladder from slipping off the supports while you attach the hinged end. You will need two people with one staying in the attic until the ladder is fully installed. Have the person below guide you as you shim the sides to be sure the door panel and frame are parallel. Yes, the two of you should be able t do it. Follow the video instructions on U-tube. The most experienced person should be in the attic to shim and nail ladder unit in place.

The 25 will fit as long as your rough opening is perfectly square. It does not leave much of any room for adjustment.

ps.... are you measuring the opening from side to side when the current attic ladder is open? if that is the case I suspect you actually have a 25" opening when you add in the width of the frame that the ladder comes mounted in... look at the installation video on werner.com to get an idea of how to install it and how to measure.

Answer:
The AH2520 attic ladder has a rough opening requirement of 25 inches. The ladder comes with the hardware attached to the ladder frame out of the packaging. The ladder frame cannot be adjusted to size, therefore the rough opening would need to be adjusted. Either the opening should be adjusted down to 22-1/2 inches, or opened to meet the 25 inch requirement.

The item I want to purchase is not available in the stores, and I have to order it online. It says "free shipping is not available for this item", but does that apply to picking it up in the store? If I select "pick up in the store" is that free? Thanks.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good pull down attic ladder The ladder was built to the size specified. Very complete installation instructions, written included in the box and video on line. Tip: follow instructions and you will not have any issues. Opens and closes easy. August 17, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Attic ladder arroved broken and dented so I returned it to the store July 5, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor shipping and quality Wow the price is right but the ladder is not. First one I got was completely destroyed , someone went out of their way to mess it up. This one had damage from shipping such as the wood that faces you bashed in. But there is quality issues such as the rivet that attaches the wood to rest of the ladder. It was to deep and went through the thin plywood so the corner is raised. Note in the picture the tire mark of something on top of the wood panel. Interesting... I will be returning this for the second time and going to the store personally going through the ladders to make sure I get one not get jacked up. March 17, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Adequate For the price you get a basic product that covers the hole in your ceiling and gives you marginally good access to the attic. The instructions are good and the youtube video is helpful. I did need a second person to help me hoist it up in the attic for installation. Unfortunately there is no warranty on this item. Werner site states as much but they still claim they stand behind their product. I don't see how as they refuse to respond to my request for help when the handrail snapped in half on about the third use. I have been using this ladder for about six months now with no other problem. So, in all, it is ok for the price and I would recommend this for the limited use it gets. Also, shipping took a shade over one month. These days that's not acceptable. November 29, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by You Get What You Pay For For the most part the ladder has been performing as designed. It does feel solid when climbing the stairs. I had it installed on 6/1/15. Since then, it's been getting harder to pull down and to push back up. As if the joints are getting tighter. I expected it to loosen up. When closing the stairs, the unit does not 'snap' back up into place. I have to use a stick to push on it for it to fully close. And just last week I noticed that the out-facing plywood cover has started to peel up at a seam where two pieces have been joined! So I am disappointed. If I had to do this again, I would spend the extra money at get a better unit. October 25, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product at a good price The ladder arrived in good time, and was not difficult to install. Instructions provided were accurate & thorough. The ladder works well. I am quite satisfied. It recommends a two-man installation. I was able to install without second person, but I wouldn't recommend it. July 30, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by These stairs are a good bang for your buck Overall these stairs are a good bang for your buck. They install pretty easily and work as intended. The only drawback is the construction of the frame. It's stapled together and comes apart very easily. They should at least use nails or even screws to keep this from happening. After screwing the corners together it installed with ease. September 30, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Badly need attic ladder The ladder is nice it 2 inches wider then our old one, so this makes it so much easer to store stuff . You realy would't think 2" would make that much differance but it dos. December 29, 2015
