Customer Questions & Answers

I am 5 feet tall, How high can I safely reach?

I need to paint the inside of my house, most rooms have 12 foot rise, do I need to get a taller ladder?
Asked by: Anonymous
The best formula that I use for choosing a step ladder for a project is: The ladder height plus 4 feet, this would give you your safe reaching height. So and 8 foot step ladder plus 4 feet would equal 12 foot safe reach. Or a 6 foot step ladder plus 4 feet would give you a safe reaching height of 10 feet. Simple formula to remember.....

I want to climb into my attic which has a trap door 9 ft from the floor. What size and type ladder do I need?

None needed.
Asked by: JM14
How well can you climb? If you climb well you can get by with 4' step ladder or sturdy stool. I am about 50# over weight and i would use an 8' or 10' ladder. The 8' will open easier in a 9' high room but you may need to use the top step or top of the ladder which is not recommended buy the MFG. A10' will protrude about 8-10" into the opening ensuring you have a safe footing.

Step ladders: What is the difference between Type I Duty Rating and Type 1A Duty Rating?

Asked by: Anonymous
The difference is the recommended weight limit. 1A is 300lbs and I believe 1 is 225lbs.

This ladder lets you reach some pretty high places; I bought mine mostly to prune trees. As long as you have all four legs on solid footing, you can feel confident while working near the top. The large "feet" really help provide good support.

I purchased the 10' version of this ladder previously due to higher ceilings in this home. I needed a smaller for everyday and average height duties. The quality of the 10 ft made the decision to purchase the 6 easy. These ladders are solid. I replaced an old 6 ft and shaky wood ladder with this purchase. Top of the ladder has indentions/trays/holes to provide stability for paint cans and to secure tools like pliers and screwdrivers. It also has a magnetic strip. Home Depot price matched Lowe's with the additional 10% easily making the purchase process and customer service a 5 star rating as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good, sturdy step ladder with a bit of extra reach We bought this ladder to do construction work on theater stages. Most step ladders are too short, one that we have is too tall, but this 12 foot ladder was just the right size for our needs. The ladder is well made, opens and folds up easily and is relatively easy for one person to carry and to set up.

They are lightweight and are a really nice shade of orange. There are a lot of labels on the sides, but most of my guys don't read the labels, so that is not a big deal. You can pinch the heck out of your hands when you fold the ladder if you are not careful. I think there is a label on the ladder somewhere about that. It is a lot of work to use a ladder, like a stair stepper on steroids. Since these are fiberglass, they are non-conductive. This is a big plus when handling electrical wires. The 300 pound load rating is really a suggestion and just there to give the lawyers something to argue about. We have had some BIG Guys on these ladders and they have not collapsed! I would highly recommend that you get one, even if you don't need one. You never know.
