Some sturdy scissors or tin snips would probably work well.

Answer:
Shouldn't need to cut them, will losen up after several uses. If still way too big, use a sheetrock style knife to cut off from bottom. you can cut a notch out for the first rung.

Answer:
The Werner Co does not recommend modifying any product in any way. The covers are designed to fit over the top of the ladder, and extend down the rails to ensure a tight fit.

Answer:
If you are talking about not being able to reduce the ladder to the minimum height, I would live with the inconvenience because the benefits out way this small matter. You would have to cut part of the rubber and this would reduce the ability of the part to stay connected to the ladder.

Answer:
No. I just measured mine and they are a snug fit on a 1" by 3" ladder end so at 1.5" by 3.5", they would not stretch enough to fit on a 2 by 4.

Answer:
I believe they would, with a little effort or trimming of 2x4 they should fit. I have them on my Werner 16' alum. Ext. ladder, I also have a pair on my Werner 24' fiberglass extension ladder, that I bought several years ago.

Answer:
They're not designed for that but if the edges of the 2x4 were rounded and smooth it would probably work.

Answer:
Not sure if your question, the covers just slide over the ends of the ladder which sets against walls.. No tools needed. If you are asking how to strap on the covers, again no need to, they slide on easily

They are hollow in the middle and open on the bottom so they slip over the end of the extension ladder.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 37 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by must have Great product to keep ladders from marring siding. June 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So far, so good Seem to be working well and quality seems good. I have an old aluminum extension ladder and it works really well. April 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by WOrks Great No Brainer here. If you have and extension ladder and are going to be working either inside or out, get the ends covered. You wont mark up the interior walls, nor will you damage the siding on the outside. April 19, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Do the job They work well for protecting walls where ladder leans on but even on a werner ladder when ladder brought down in rubs against the ladder which pinches the rubber cover. Would have expected better design to fit own ladder. With tight fit it is difficult to remove and place all the time February 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simple Protection Easy to place, good protection. Recommended to protect surfaces where the ladder rests. November 6, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ladder Mitts (covers) These are a cinch to put on your ladder. I needed to clean my second story windows but didn't want to scratch my freshly painted house. Our painters had them on their ladders so I went out and bought a pair for my ladder. Wow why hadn't I bought these before? No marks on the house and actually seemed to make the ladder quieter. I highly recommend these. And these are pretty affordable. December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product, easy to put on They don't slip, fit snuggly, make no marks on siding .. or wood flooring .. yes, we put them on ladder feet as well as tops when doing inside work. September 29, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This is a great product Easley fit on my ladder and worked as advertised. I recommend this item. October 27, 2015
