The Werner Steel Adjustable Roof Bracket allows you to change the bracket according to the pitch of the roof. The powder coated steel bracket attaches easily using the 3 teardrop holes. Adjustable angle roof bracket to be used at 40, 50 and 60° angles on roofs with pitches of 10/12, 14/12, and 21/12.

Is there a certain way these are to be nailed/screwed on an asphalt shingle roof so as not to cause leaks in roof?

yes. lift up the shingle and slide the bracket under it. While holding the shingle up, drive 3 nails in the slots. While the bracket is in use, the roof flap will cover the bracket and nails, thus no leak.
When done. slide the bracket up and to the left, slipping it out from under the nails. Drive the nail heads flush and let the shingle return to its normal position. A dab of roof cement over the nail Read More

when you are done you pry them up just enough to slide them off the nails them drive the nails all the way back in and caulk over them

When mounting the roof brackets, the brackets must be attached to the roof using 16 penny nails through all slots and or teardrop holes on the bracket mounting plate. The nails must penetrate the roof surface as well as rafters below. Nailing through the shingles will put holes into the shingles and may lead to leaking.

Unfortunately these roof brackets will not work on your type of roof. The brackets must be attached to the roof using 16-penny nails through all slots on the bracket mounting plate.
