Questions & Answers

(AC96) can this product be use to clean gutters

Asked by: easyed
This depends on the length of your extension ladder and the width of your soffit. If all factors are correct, the answer is yes, it will stabilize your ladder. But it will only stabilize it to a degree, don't be laying on it for God sake. Don't place your ladder upside down as I have seen done as well.

For purpose of gaining access to roof?

Can this be used in such a way that the stabilizer feet are resting on the roof shingles?
Asked by: Robert
Quite interesting that one person answers to the affirmative sighting personal experience, while the other two reply with negative answers without reason. I own a 24' werner ladder and use this " Universal Stabilizer " to, well, stabilize the ladder on the roof shingles. It works and I feel safe getting on and off the ladder from the roof. I suspect the negative answers were due to this product not being used as per directed. These were no helpful answers. Enjoy and be safe!

Werner indicates that this stabilizer works ONLY on Werner products: so why's it called "universal"?

Asked by: Phil
Well I can tell you it wont fit on a Harbor Freight Haul Master Multi-Task "Articulated" ladder. The U-bolts are too narrow.

Universal Stabilizer is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 118.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from I can't recommend Fits my Werner MT-17 ladder, but not well. Quality of the components is good, however I'm not impressed at all with the design. Unit strikes me as a quick, poorly thought out after thought rather than something that was thought of ahead of time. Fastening method is crude at best consisting of a couple of U clamps and some wingnuts. When installing, it bends two support braces in the ladder before it comes in contact with the main vertical rails. Unit does help to stabilize the ladder, but because of the poor design I'm leery about using it. Doesn't instill much, if any, confidence. In my opinion, Werner needs to redesign and re-engineer so that it becomes more of an integral part of the ladder when attached.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Keep you shingles and gutters from getting crushed I wanted some sort of attachment to prevent the MT-17 Werner ladder from damaging our new roof shingles which extend 1" past the drip edge. Unfortunately the slope of our roof is low so the arms don't land perpendicular to the roof. I had to put the feet on the fascia board. As others have said, the rubber feet come off too easy. If that happens, the sharp aluminum ends can dig into your paint and tiles. I would expect much better from Werner. I wonder if Little Giant has the same issue. Very solid when attached with the wing nuts. Don't expect to fold the ladder up completely with the stand-off attached. As another reviewer did, I mounted the attachment to the very front of the ladder with no issues as of yet.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not to be used on Werner fiberglass ladders??? I purchased this unit for my Werner extension ladder. The narrow angle clips only work if installed opposite to what the directions call for. No where on the box does it say only for aluminum ladders or do not use on fiberglass ladders. I am still using it with the current installation and it seems to be okay. A tip from an old timer, put a little finger nail polish on the threads of the u bolt, this will keep nuts from backing off and break away easy when it's time to remove it. .

The description states these work with MT ladders of all lengths. What it does not tell you ... if you install it as directed (on the climbing side), you lose the width of the ladder and width of the bar, making the standoff only 6". 6" is enough to get the ends of the ladder off the wall, but not enough to get around my shingle overhang (which is mostly why I wanted it; to clean the gutters). I see others mounted it on the other side. If that is a safe option, the manufacturer should state so. If not, they should acknowledge the true standoff. Also, the directions state to, 'Slide bucket hanger onto stabilizer'. What they do not mention ... the bow in the bar, creates a bulge in the bar. The hook does not slide on. It took me 30 minutes of re-reading the direction, and hammering it, to get it on. Typically when you have to hammer something in place, you are doing it wrong. Fits perfectly once it is past the bow, but the directions should mention this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Safety Device.... To begin, I'm 74, have emphysema and use oxygen; if that's not enough, I'm just getting back into shape and in the swim of things after several years of recovering from a severe set back. All of the above is probably more information than you need but it's just by way of letting you know how much this stabilizer device means to me as I go about cleaning over 65 feet of gutters and installing gutter screens. Until a couple of months ago, I was doing so without your "literal lifesaver"...; Thanks!!! Much Regard, Duncan

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool I bought my first one in 1976 when I was a chimney sweep after nearly falling 30 ft from a slate roof when trying to get off ladder and onto roof, though I don't remember it it was from Werner. Once I discovered it, never had another issue in my nearl 30 years of chimney sweeping. I could have literally danced on that thing with my 28' or 32' ladders. I always used the adhesive called "Household Goop" to keep the rubber end caps from coming off.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I purchased for my ext ladder to fix damaged gutters... I purchased for my ext ladder to fix damaged gutters on my second story. I still had to lean back at an awkward angle to acces the gutters. I modified mine by adding a piece of square aluminum tubing to extend off the wall a bit further. It would be a nice option to have adjustable riggers.
