Distance Between Screw Holes

I didn't see a distance between screws anywhere in the specs or reviews. That should be part of the specs, IMHO, instead of "fits most tubs". Can someone measure and enlighten me? Thanks.
Asked by: engr4you
2-7/8 inches from the center of one screw to the other. Hope this helps.

In my old bathtub, I had an equally old overflow faceplate with a lever that in its better days acted as a bathtub stopper. However with time it grew old, quit and wouldn't move. I have had it for what seems forever, ever since I moved in. Initially I didn't mind it as I always take showers anyway. But then I decided that the time has come to do a changeover. Since I have never done anything much to do with plumbing, I went online to do a bit of a research. And here I found it, on the Home Depot website, a little Westbrass 2-Hole Overflow Faceplate looking at me in bright polished chrome with a very reasonable price to boot. I have purchased it online and picked up at a local store. To my surprise, I was handed a fairly large box for the faceplate size, measuring 10 x 8 x 8, while the piece is only about three inches in diameter. For a moment there, I thought that someone made a mistake and gave me a wrong box. But both the description and the order number were the same as on my printout so I took it home. After having opened the large outer box, I found yet another, much smaller box inside that was tucked into one of the corners. The rest of the space was taken by a few packing pillows. Wow, I thought, what a terrific packing job. The small box is opened and here it is, my new overflow plate sitting there, neatly bundled in a bubble wrap. It came with two long screws that I have ended up not using as they turned out to be way too long for my set up. So I used the existing screws from the old piece. Off to work I went, to test out my plumbing skills. First I unscrewed the old faceplate. Then I had to wiggle it a bit while pulling it out; if felt like I was pulling a tooth. Done with that, I ended up with a dark hole that looked like a mouth of sorts open wide. Installing the new faceplate was surprisingly easy using the existing screws as the new ones turned out too long for my set up. And bingo! I have installed my new overflow faceplate and am proud of myself. My old tub looks so much better with it in place. I highly recommend this Overflow Faceplate by Westbrass.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Straightforward Replacment I replaced all the polished brass fixtures in a 16 year old bathroom and this was the final item for that upgrade. I learned that the industry standard for two-screw overflows is 1.91 inches between the screws. I have no idea where the standard came from since it doesn't calculate to any 1/32 of an inch or any metric conversion. But the install took about 2 minutes and now the job looks complete. Finish on the product looks good and matches the polished chrome on the Roman Tub faucet quite well. Not sure why this is not stocked in stores. They do stock a similar product with one screw in the center.
