Answer:
I'm not sure about this, but it seems to me that you'd need a tungsten, halogen or dimable LED bulb.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Using for 2 years and works great I've been using this on a home-made floor lamp with copper pipe as the pole and Home Depot lamp kit on top. It's so easy to be sitting in a chair next to the lamp and just touch the pole. However, it's not perfect for all situations. As someone noted here, it does raise the bulb height more than an inch which could be a problem if the harp that you attach the shade to is not tall enough. You could replace the harp with a taller one, but that would also raise the shade higher than before, or you might be able to find a shorter bulb. Also, if you loose power, the lamp won't come back on when power returns, unless you touch it again. And... it needs to touch metal on your socket, so if you have a porcelain or plastic socket, the metal band that goes around the inside of it has to reach at least 1/8 inch above the porcelain or plastic top of the socket. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by must have good contact I had two of these before for two metal floor lamps, and they worked perfectly from the start. When one module failed after about 2 years I got another one to replace it and it did NOT work when I first put it on the same floor lamp. I tried it on the other lamp and then it DID work. I think the metal contacts on the side that touch the lamp metal body must have good contact, as these are sensitive to any resistance. The first touch module failed because I moved the floor lamp and banged it hard on the floor causing the bulb to blow which due to movement caused a brief short that destroyed the first module. This can happen to any touch lamp if they are handled roughly while powered. It does extended the height of the bulb 2 inches so you must have enough clearance. August 27, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by bad design-raises height of bulb & shade won't fit My touch lamp switch died and my light won't turn on/ off. I bought this 3 way touch switch and it will not work with this or any of the 4 lamps that I tried. It also raises the height of the bulb so that you can not put the shade bracket back on. I will return this item and purchase the touch lamp on/off switch that WESTEK makes and see if this works? My only other choice is to buy a new touch lamp!! February 4, 2009
