Answer:
Without the hand-held transmitter, the receiver (part installed in the fan) will not respond to signals, and will continue supplying power to the ceiling fan at the last settings the remote was adjusted to. Altering the pull-chain settings could cause interference in the motor of the fan, and is not recommended. Altering the pull-chain settings could cause interference in the motor of the fan, and is not recommended. You should not install a remote control receiver to be controlled by a wall control other than a single pole (simple on/off) switch, in which case you could turn the fan off at the wall if the motor or lights were set to "ON", but you would not be able to turn the fan on if the remote was set to "OFF" or change the speed of the motor. You also would not be able to use the dimmer function of the light control of the remote unit. Read Less

Customer Reviews

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install and 4 fan speeds to choose from I found this very easy to install in a Westinghouse ceiling fan. Both the fan and the remote support 4 speeds - the extra speed compared to most fans gives a nice selection of ranges. Wish it came with two remotes though, and it doesn't appear that Westinghouse sells the remotes separately. Uses a somewhat odd 23AE size battery, not sure how long it'll last or cost to replace the battery. July 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Surprised by ease of installation We bought this as an alternative to installing a light switch and running extra wire. Our kids can now operate the light and/or fan as needed without our help. It is definitely worth the purchase. No problems with the installation or operation of the unit. August 7, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by we love being able to run the fan from next to the bed It was hard for the electrician to hook up the remote control but now that it is done..... we love it... July 9, 2013
