Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by woodworkerx3m Well built and good value-I added an hour meter
I bought this generator based upon the overall reviews. It seems to be one of the best reviewed generators on the market. I would agree with those reviews. Since this generator does not come with an hour meter, I purchased one and installed it. I then ran it for about 20 hours with the oil that came with it. I then changed the oil and put in synthetic. My research on this seemed to indicate that the break-in period should be done with regular oil. The hour meter I used was a Honeywell 28104 for about $30. It requires a 2" round hole and I wired it directly to one of the ac outlets. A generator really needs an hour meter so you know when to change oil.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by CaveCreekRay "MONGO IS ALIIIIVE!!!!"
Of all people to shop for generators, my wife found this and sent me the link. Low and behold, after doing a couple hours of research online, I discovered this generator is number one in its class for 2014 and 2015. While some online sources identify it as "made in America," I went to the source and talked to the Westinghouse folks in Wisconsin. Bad news: It's made in China (as are 90% of generators today). Good news: Its built out of Westinghouse specified parts like forged crankshafts. I spent two hours online and could find zero owners saying their motors exploded. If you read the reviews at other "freight" stores, their motors are evidently not as reliable.
The fit and finish on this thing is absolutely top notch. Everything on it except the pull handle and wheels is metal, and not the flims- buzzy- rattly kind. Even the gas cap is plastic-wrapped metal and big enough to open and close in winter with gloves on. This sturdiness adds to the bone-crushing 170-odd lbs but the wheel kit makes moving "Mongo" pretty darned easy. The gas tank on this beast has a nice mechanical gas gauge which took me about two gallons to get off EMPTY. It does not have a Hobbs timer to record run time but, I found an 120v AC online for $17 and will cut a hole for it one of these days and wire it to one of the outlets.
It started pretty easily, after the dope starting it remembered to turn on the start switch... After eight pulls turned off, it didn't flood. Cranked right up after I turned the switch on. For break in, I plugged a large high velocity circulator fan into the generator and let it blow on the engine, keeping it cooler for break-in and gave it a little load to work on.
As I understand it from the company online Q&A, the generator is brushless and has a voltage regulator making it acceptable for computers. I haven't put a voltage meter on it yet to measure voltage but the fan ran just fine and the generator didn't miss a beat when it was turned on.
Other than being a tad loud up close (quieter than most "construction style" generators) and fairly heavy, I have zero complaints so far. It wheels easily and as long as you are not lifting it in and out of a truck or hauling it down stairs, its a winner. Reliability will be reflected in time but, with no "sploded" motors reported online, I feel pretty sure this beast will be there when I need it.
Remember: When storing, always run the engine dry by turning off the petcock. Keep you gas stabilized and never store it longer than a year. And run them at least every few months for a half hour or so to keep the seals and squishy bits squishy. When you change the oil, switch over to synthetic to protect the motor better between long sits and during extended runs.
One note: There is no GFCI equipped on this model.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Robsterrob Great Generator - well built - converted to tri-fuel
This generator was very easy to assemble, couple wheels and handles and it was set to go. I purchased a tri-fuel conversion kit (not at HD) and installed it with some modification to the frame of the generator. Next filled it up with some hi quality synthetic 5w-30 oil designed for small engines and was ready to go. Please note that the generator does come with a quart of 4 stroke oil that also can be used. The generator will be using a 30A L14-30R generator cable from generator to L14-30R outlet on outside of house. This outlet then wires directly to a manual 10 position transfer switch. I have it about 6 ft from the house on a small 3ft x 3ft concrete pad I poured. I then started by firing the generator up using a natural gas connection - started immediately and ran very nicely - unloaded! For a quick check I plugged in a 1000W halogen work light to load the generator. Once plugged in the generator loaded down and again continued to run nicely. The exhaust on this thing is a very nice size allowing it to run at the listed 71dB level - pretty quiet for a 5500W generator! I can barely hear it inside my house, I am very satisfied. I also purchased the cover for it, pretty basic but does the job nicely. Now I actually am looking forward to the first power outage. I may update after that occurs.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Newuser1 great machine except for filling it with gas
Came on a pallet that I had to break down and dispose of. Easy to assemble the wheels, feet and handles to the unit. The gas tank has a wide cover that narrows to a small opening into the tank. This opening also has an obstruction that keeps a gas can filler tube from getting into the tank. The result is spilled gas. I have several gas engine devices and none of them have this problem. Hence the low ease of use.
Engine started on first pull the second day after running it the first day. The unit is easy to move about with the wheels and handles that collapse to the unit when not being used.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JimmyD AWESOME Generator!!!!!!
This was our first experience RELYING on a generator. I couldn't be more pleased on how it operated! We ran it for 24 hrs straight during winter storm Kato. I only shut it down to do a NASCAR oil change on it.. (They state !st change at 20 hrs) Then I fired it up and it ran for 48 hrs straight. I was getting stuff together for the next oil change.(subsequent oil changes every 50 hrs), The power came back on. It ran all the necessities in my house, and then some. My range and dryer were not hooked up to the generator bypass. My only wish is that I had bought the electric start model. I have MD so pull starting was a challenge but manageable. AWESOME FREAKING GENERATOR!!!!!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Want2BeWally 1st impression is very good
Not much to say yet. Haven't had a chance to fire it up yet but I can say it was easy to assemble. All you're doing is attaching the wheels and the folding handles to the metal frame that goes around the generator. All necessary tools are provided and it only took me about 25 minutes from opening the box to fully assembled. Anyone with actual skill could do it in 15. I did notice that there were no outlet covers. For some reason I thought there would be, but considering how many generator reviews I read before I bought this, I'm not surprised I got confused. Not a deal killer. I think the key reasons I bought this were
A. Many positive reviews - few negative
B. 3 year MFG warranty
C. Well known MFG
D. $200 less than at Lowe's for some reason

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Smiling Great generator, great shopping experience!
I researched a variety of generators, and found that the Westinghouse had all the features I was looking for, and the best and longest warranty. I wasn't interested in picking it up myself, but a call to Home Depot made home delivery easy and painless. I had my home wired to have an exterior 30 amp connection point, to use this generator as an emergency power supply. The generator is compact, easy to store, easy to start, and easy to maintain. Assembly was a cinch, and was completed in less than five minutes. All in all a perfect purchase, and a perfect shopping experience.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bobby Westinghouse makes good generators
We decided on this generator for a number of reasons:
1. Westinghouse generators are easily servicable and parts are readily available. This is not always true with many of the cheaper options out there.
2. This is a quiet machine (as far as generators go)
3. The machine starts easily and friends that have the same generator have proven that it is well built and worth the investment.
Keep it maintained, follow the instructions to the letter, and this machine will work like a charm
