I purchased this water heater and installed it 10 days ago. It is very quite and very efficient. The exhaust gasses are amazingly cool. I used cpvc because of a prior experience with pvc bending with heat. That was overkill on my part. The heater is great. My water temp went from 70 to 132 in 10 minutes My question is, does this have an anode rod? Can I add another? That appears easy via the aux input. If I may add another, what material is suggested? My last heater lasted 16 years because I had 2 anode rods. I replaced it because I thought it was leaking. It turned out that the piping was the source of the leak. I am a believer in anode rods.

Hi Jarvco, Thank you for your interest in our products! We are so happy you are pleased with your water heater. There are no anode rods in this unit due to the highly durable stainless steel. We would not recommend adding an anode rode to this unit as it could have a negative effect on the SS material. Thank you, Westinghouse

"Up to 97% efficiency" is pure fluff. Where is the the US government Energy Guide to allow for meaningful comparisons with other heaters?
Asked by: JP
I have no way to accurately measure the efficiency. I was concerned about the heat of the exhaust gases because of the pressurized nature of the exhaust system. They are amazingly cool and considerably cooler than my previous gas fired water heater. The heat is obviously being transferred to the water more efficiently. I don't know if it is 97%. Either way I am very pleased.

Can you use the same exhaust vent from existing gas water heater

Asked by: El
To: 'El' dated 23 Feb - Re:{..can this Condensing Heater use existing Exhaust Vent?} Sorry, but [No] .... since the 'condensing' design creates final exhaust gases which are very cool BUT both corrosive and with considerable quantities of liquid, there must be a new, entirely-separate Exhaust System. This will be of normal PVC Piping of the appropriate sizing, exhausted directly-to-outside, with that 'Liquid' being separately-plumbed into the sewer appropriately....eli2

How noisy is the blower?
Asked by: Resident
I can barely hear it. The unit is inside a mechanical room and cannot be heard with the door shut.

I bought this heater because it is 76,000 btu vs most other 50 gal heaters that are 40,000 btu. Heats very quickly. From 70 to 130 degrees in 10 min. We have a large house and often run 2 dishwashers at the same time. The rapid recovery time is excellent. There is plenty of hot water. I believe that the stainless tank will last much longer than most and be a good value long term. Buyers should be aware that the exhaust is pressurized and will require venting with PVC, CPVC, or stainless pipe. The standard double wall galvanized pipe cannot be used. This is a very important safety issue. We used CPVC. It was available at 2 major plumbing wholesalers in Dallas. Materials were about $300 for 30 ft of pipe and fittings which I purchased for the plumber. The directions are very comprehensive, understandable and well written

We recently purchased the Westinghouse 50 Gallon gas water heater for our home and family of 6. I was drawn to the stainless steel look but after more research saw it is also a strong quality material. We are very happy so far and are anxious to see the savings we will get with this high efficiency heater.
