Customer Questions & Answers

Can I use a full sysnthetic 5W-30 Mobil1 (Car engine motor oil). Oil that came with generator is 10 w 30 and designed for 4 cycle engine.

Also, where can I get a gasoline without ethanol?
Asked by: OOTRA
I would recommend using a non synthetic oil for the first 30 hours of operation before switching to a full synthetic. The mfg also recommends breaking in the generator for 30 hours before placing full load draws on the generator. They also recommend changing out the provided oil after 20 hours of use. I changed mine out after 10 hours to a non synthetic. After 30 hours I will consider a full synthetic. Hope this helps... We have several options for non ethanol fuel where I live. All are premium non ethanol fuel. We have Cenex stores that carry it and some Conoco stations. That is a good choice, that is what I use on all my small engines..

Is it possible to switch to propane fuel? What is the cost? Can it be made to run both propane and gasoline?

Asked by: racyt
To switch to propane fuel, you would need to change so many components (if they are even available) that it would be more cost effective to sell your generator and buy one that was specifically designed to run on both propane and gasoline.

Page 21, of the operation manual, item 4 says that the 120/240-Volt, 30-Amp Twist Lock Outlet (NEMA 14-30R): Outlet can supply either 120V or 240V output. How does one select 120v or 240v and what protection is there to prevent the wrong voltage from being used?
Asked by: David
Outlets are 120 twist lock cable goes to separate service panel which disburses power .

7,500-Watt Gasoline Powered Electric Start Portable Generator with Battery is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 148.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clean electricity and well made Li Fan has made this excellent product for Westinghouse. Clean electricity. Easy to install wheel and handle kit with pins, provided. Fired up immediately with supplied battery. Just add provided oil, your gas, connect negative battery cable and its up n running. Its even quieter than my old 4400 watt Homelite generator. I recommend always mixing a measured amount of fuel stabilizer in gasoline. Also I recommend running it 30 minutes a month to keep battery charged. I also bought a Wen cover for it, 420cc engine should last a long time, even though it will be stored inside. Great value. Well made.

It was easy to set up wheels and hand grips. I filled it with provided oil and gas. It started and ran noticable more quiet then my older genrac. The battery came charged and the gen start with a quick push of the start button. The reason I bought this unit was i wanted to have electric start and was hoping for some a little quieter then my older generator. Im glad i bought this model . Its set up in my shed and feeds into its own 12 breaker panel im ready for a blizzard and not worried about trying to pull start it during a storm in the dark when its 20 something degrees out.

When I picked it up the top of the box was badly damaged. Before I accepted it I was allowed to open the box and there appeared to be no damage. A few days after getting it home I unboxed it and the initial setup; wheels, handles, adding oil, and connecting battery were simple enough. However, when I tried to start the generator via the electric start it would only click. Owners Manual suggested running the generator to charge the battery which I did for 6/10ths of an hour, but that didn't help. I connected a battery maintainer to the battery and the indicator light suggested the battery was bad. I contacted Westinghouse via email. They responded back the next day with a phone number to call for warranty service. I did that, talked to a gentleman about what was happening and he felt like I had a bad battery and he would ship me one. After waiting patiently for 11 days for the battery to arrive I called back to inquire. I was transferred to the parts department and told if they didn't answer to leave a message and he assured me they would call back, which they didn't. By this time I'm getting close to reaching the 30 day return deadline, didn't have a callback from parts 24 hours later so I returned the generator to Home Depot without any issue for full credit. The very next day after returning it I got an email from Westinghouse parts stating the battery had shipped. I still want a generator, this one has good reviews, but now I've had a negative experience, and not sure about warranty support if I even tried ordering another one. The generator started on the second pull, but I purchased one with an electric start. I'm giving the generator only 2 stars since it didn't work as expected out of the box and it's hard to recommend a product that failed and it took two phone calls to get Westinghouse to act. Home Depot was outstanding on handling the sales, pickup, and return of the generator.

This generator is surprisingly quiet for it's size. It was easy enough to setup and get started. I ran it for over an hour after receiving it so probably not a full test but there were no issues. My only complaint would be with the angle of the oil reservoir cap/dipstick but in the scheme of things, it's only minor. This combined with our transfer switch should bring us through any power outages.

The units were shipped to my house where they arrived in excellent condition. They were easy to assemble and both units cranked immediately after adding gas. I am happy that I bought them from Home Depot and a added bonus is that they were cheaper there than at the other Box store even with my military discount.

A bit of confusion to hook up starter leads but it was running within twenty minutes of opening the box. RPM does not govern down so this adds to the noise level. Weight is considerable but the dolly frame makes it easy. Power has yet to be maxed out but I don't have any doubts. The electric start is especially nice!

I put gas and oil in it, connected the battery and used the electric start and it fired up easily in 15 seconds. Ran great for the two hours I wanted it to. NOTE: I read where it's good idea to change the oil after running it for the FIRST 2 hours. This will remove any metal that may be in the engine from manufacturing.

It came ahead of due date. Read the manual, Oil and gas added then hit the start switch. It Fired right up first turn over. It's not as quite as I would have liked but sure beat my old Troy built generator by far. My solution was to put the gen in a small barn 80ft. from my house. A 100ft role of 8awg- 4cond. outdoor Romex buried about a foot deep back to house. Plenty of ventilation and help exhaust fumes & cooling out with two cheap box fans sucks heat and exhaust from building. Power was checked at the 220 outlet and all legs are even 120 volt. Beefed up barn door and padlocked it. Two pits, Electric wire and locked chain link fence. Smith and Wesson handle any other security issues. I bought Stabil and fresh oil after a full break in period. A side note: Although I'm sure it can cope with 10% ethanol but I personally will run non ethanol gas in this one. Curious to see the life span on this. Rick
