This has to be one of the best things I've purchased for our kitchen remodel and a bonus it was a DIY project. The video on Youtube from Westinghouse made all the difference you could follow right along with the instructional video as you put in your own.

I bought this and another kit from HD but wanted to try this one first as it seemed easiest.
O.M.G.--SO SIMPLE. My husband wanted to wait til morning to have better lighting. Not me. So he helped me to install which was basically to hand me the tools and read the step by steps -as this comes in handy.
I pulled off the trim and took the plastic cone out of the can. I lenghtend the bracket which is like a mini ceiling fan bracket extender (if you know what I'm talking about). slid the mount part to the middle and tightened it up. Next you use the self tapping screws to drill into the side of the can and secure the bracket to the can. I used a power drill for this part as I don't have alot of upper arm strenght and would rather not waste 10 minutes of my life struggling. Connected the white, black and ground and Zippo!! ALL DONE.
I left off the giant metal washer/flange like protector and molded medlalion as I was installing a light that had a base larger than 4 inches.
Next I installed this beautiful light where my recessed can light was. Again, easy install and only 5 minutes tops.
Both work well, and my light is gorgeous. Now to paint the room.
I bought the bracket because I want to swap my can lights in my kitchen for some pendant lights. I decided to buy one and try it in my bedroom first. Since I obviously didn't use a pendant light. and as previously stated, I left off the flange and molded medallion/trim ring. I don't particularly like the medallion look around a pendandt light so I might be shopping online for a larger diameter housing when I get to the kitchen projects. My ceiling lights have holes measuring 7 inches so I need to find a cover plate that will cover the ceiling entirely but that will be for another time.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by frankthetank Much better product
I convert a lot of recessed lights into various other light fixtures. For a couple of years, home Depot only offered one conversion kit with a very boring, flat plate to cover the hole left by the recess can. This product has a decorative ring that is easy to paint to match the new light fixture. It is a HUGE improvement.
On another note- Lowe's doesn't offer anything for this type of project. Their lighting section is far superior to Home Depot (at least 3 times as many options & much higher quality) but, I always come back to home Depot to buy these converter kits.

The recessed light converter kit worked very well for hanging a chandelier.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by dmknisle Good product
The product is great and does exactly what it's supposed to. However, with that said, they state the screws provided are "self tapping" screws. These are not self tapping and take some force to actually get them started. This was the only issue I had with this product and am completely satisfied. Just be aware that the installation is not as easy as the video Westinghouse has done for this product.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Tony Recessed Light Convertor
This product was difficult to install and seemed to have more parts than should be necessary. It also was made more difficult because I was using it to convert a bulls eye can light and when doing so the bulb socket end up hanging loose by its wires because of the construction of the pivoting bulls eye light fixture.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quirky Great way to convert a recessed light into a hanging pendant light.
We got it in with no problems...it was under $15.00 and very easy to make the update to my bathroom lighting.

What a simple DIY -- amazing kit -- need a second person to support the new fixture to attach, but otherwise just as easy as the video showed. Was so easy, we replaced all three closet can lights and one over the kitchen sink.
