Answer:
NO. If you install ceiling fan using this device the rotational torque from the ceiling fan will eventually cause the unit to fail, and the ceiling fan will land on your head.

Answer:
Maybe--it depends on the new light that you install. If it has a standard bell, the bell will be at an angle, and the chain will hang from it.

Answer:
This gets installed in an existing recessed lighting fixture. This screws into the existing light fixture so therefore no access would be needed.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 80 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great idea! Great product. Easy installation if in an open area. Mine was a little cumbersome as it was over a kitchen sink in a tight area. Still completed in less than 30 minutes. Would do it again October 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great! Great price, works as advertised, easy to install. October 23, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Worked as advertised. I thought it cost too much for being as simple as it was. I didn't need the extra plate in there so perhaps it would have been cheaper if it didn't include the extra parts. Installation was pretty easy, but the instructions could have been better (reason for the washer in one side wasn't obvious until you thought about it a bit) October 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Inexpensive and easy to install. This does the job. Other converter kits are available at greater cost but save some money and buy this one. Watch the video. Simple to install. Very intuitive. October 11, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great purchase Came with excellent directions. Hardware was well engineered. September 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A must for replacing a recessed light! I hired an electrician to install this, but watched him so would say it was pretty easy to install. He also said that in his experience Home Depot's conversion kit was the best one made and the best price. So if you need to convert a recessed light--this is ht one to buy! September 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked like a charm Needed to convert two canister recessed lights into pendents. The installation video was very helpful and easier to follow than the directions. Now my wife is happy so I am happy. May 1, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great except There is no provision for installing if your can does not come down flush with the ceiling. Because it leaves no place to install the metal plate. I was able to do some additional engineering with parts I had and made it work. So if the edge of your can is not flush with the ceiling you are going to have to improvise. September 11, 2016
