Customer Questions & Answers

Is the light dimmable?

I would like to use dimmable LEDs with this - is that possible without the electric hum you sometimes get when going that route?
Asked by: cooleoinAZ
The Quality team at Westinghouse Lighting has done some testing at our office with this fan, and found that the included remote control works well with the Westinghouse LEDs we tested it with. The only issue we found with using LEDs in this fan was the limited space in the light kit, which will not allow some types of LED to be installed. We were able to install a G16-1/2 size 7W LED (Westinghouse #03128), a B11 size 5W LED (Westinghouse #03141) and a B10 size 3W LED (Westinghouse #33045) and found that each of these LEDs dimmed smoothly through the entire range with no humming or flickering. Because of the small size of the light kit, the LEDs are close to the glass dome, and can produce patterns of brighter and darker areas depending on how the LED distributes light, but I personally did not find this to be a problem when I did the testing.

could this fan be used on an open porch?

I have had an indoor fan at this location for 10 years, and the blades are warping. Can I order a set of spare blades?

No, this product is only rated for indoor use.

My existing ceiling fan runs off 2 switches, 1 for the light/the other for the fan. Since this has a remote, does it have to be hardwired differently

Asked by: Mommaofthree
Yes. Wired connections from the house and the fan to the remote receiver. Connect using wire nuts.

can energy saver bulb be used instead of the incandescent candelabra bulb?

Asked by: ac445
The remote control in the Solana fan, model #72161, is only rated for use with incandescent lights. We do not recommend using CFLs or LEDs in this fan. Thank you, Fran Hurley Q. C. Technician Global Supply Chain Office: 888-417-6222 Fax: 215-464-4115

Solana 48 in. Brushed Nickel Ceiling Fan is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 36.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks Great!! The electrical installer did have and issue with it grinding and wobbling in high and low speeds but he tightened the inner screws and it seemed to smooth out other than that he said was a breeze to install and looks lovely in the office

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy Noise Fix Be aware this fan has an annoying noise. It comes from the top metal egg cover plate rattling against the main motor housing below that it simply sits on. (Especially at higher speeds). To fix, (although we shouldn't have to) Take the foam self adhesive weights, remove the foam adhesive, and stick it between the plate and the motor housing. That creates a sound isolation gap between the two. Sound is gone. Also, bear in mind this fan cannot be wired to a 2 switch house wire unless you keep it on super fast. The factory speed setting is super fast and there are no pull chains to adjust so you are left with using the included remote box to reduce the speed. Looks awesome though!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mostly Satisfied Fans are great looking with a modern design. They are easy to install and very quiet during operation. I purchased six and they have been in use for 2-1/2 years. Have received positive comments from friends when they see the fans. The brushed nickel with mahogany blade design blends nicely with our interior room décor. The only reason I rated it four-star is that one fan has failed after 2-1/2 years of operation. Not sure whether the problem is the motor or the remote receiver. I purchased a new fan to replace it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from looks good works great, maybe alittle over priced everything is as expected. it looks and works great. i am not sure there is $200 worth of fan here. but that just may be me. i guess ya pay extra for how cool it looks. ohh and the description is for a different fan, look the fan up on the westinghouse web site for the right description.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful fan, took star off for dim light Gorgeous fan, very quiet and good quality. Don't buy if you want it for overhead lighting, though. Very weak light.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Modern looking ceiling fan My order arrived earlier than promised. Greta job, HD!! The installation would have taken less time if not not for the black metal bracket, underneath (or above) the lighting unit and the glass cover, being over tighten and causing a metal on metal nose when the blades starting to rotate. It was also strange for the fan to be set to reverse, rotating counter clockwise, initially. Since the instructions were not clear on how to attach the blades, I spent a few extra minutes making sure the blades were assembled correctly. To fit the remote receiver and all the extra wires into the upper housing could be a bit tricky. Luckily I cut the wires down to the length needed for my installation so that part went pretty easy for me. The motor is not whisper quiet and if the ceiling is not well insulated for sound, it could get a little loud for some. The dimming feature is a bonus. Overall, very happy with the purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Fan!!! I have been enjoying my new fan for about one month. It moves a lot of air, and looks great at the same time! The light has a dimmer, which is a unique feature. Don't hesitate to purchase it! I highly recommend this well priced, and functional ceiling fan.
