How bright are the cook top lights?

Is the cook top light bright (not the inside light but the outside)? How many bulbs are there and what is the wattage you can use? And - is there a hi-low setting for the lights. Thank you.
Asked by: fatj1974
Very bright...much brighter that any we've had prior. The light has 2 levels so can be turned down to nightlight level. There is one, halogen bulb.

Is it true this item is being discontinued and that is why it is out of stock?

Asked by: Putty
I read that too but someone from Whirlpool posted saying it was NOT being discontinued and it is selling very well. When i bought it was out of stock but i got phone calls from Whirlpool keeping me updated on the delivery. I hated to wait but it was worth it.

does it need to be vented

Asked by: tiyo
this unit,as most, can be vented up and out, out the back and out, or back into the kitchen. this is all set up prior to wall mounting and is easy to do. back into the kitchen mode has a charcoal filter that will need to be replaced regularly. there are two filters on the bottom that can be washed and reused.

Bought 11 months ago and the automatic light feature didn't work from the start. A third party technician had to come out to service 3 times and on the third time he contacted a Whirlpool tech to find out that it was a known issue. First, it would have been nice to find this out before leaving work 3 times. Second, he closed the case and told me I would have to contact Whirlpool customer service and deal with them direct. When I called they told me it would take 6 - 8 months for fix to be available, but they continue to sell the unit. Are they continuing to sell defective units? If not, why does it take so long? They also told me I would be contacted by Platinum factory direct, their 3rd party technician who already closed the case and told me I need to deal with Whirlpool. Third, I now have a noise issue with the unit so I called to have a tech come back out. This will be the fourth time. While on the phone I inquired about the fix for the automatic light and was told it was still at least 6 months out. However, it's already been 3 months since I was told it was 6 - 8 months out. They also stated again that I would hear from their 3rd party technician when it becomes available. I called Platinum factory and they said that the case is closed and I had to deal with Whirlpool. How is this acceptable?

It handles simple microwaving tasks like a champ. But you don't need to spend this kind of money for that. We bought it for the versatility of the convection cooking. Unfortunately, the included page of instructions is so minimal that using the advanced features is little better than guess work. There is no additional information available at Whirlpool's web site either. Too bad they can't include a few more sheets of paper for the kind of money you have to spend to get one of these. I might actually recommend this product, but first I have to figure out how to use it. It looks like that will take a while though.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from short on information I looked with anticipation on using the convection feature on my new microwave . I was SO disappointed to find little info on how to use. I've been watching videos from sharp and LG to figure out how to use . I'm still hesitant on using convection feature as their product has different options. I was really surprised how little info you give with this. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This microwave is garbage !!! I have owned this microwave for two years and now I'm unable to use it because it says the door is open when it's closed. I have open and closed the door about 100 times and it still says the same thing. Door is open. This microwave was a huge waste of money

The mounting holes were not in the same place. Had to do minor carpentry but I was warned in advance. Measure where the mounting bolts go. So far I like this fine. The microwave seems to cook evenly. The convection oven works well and heats quickly. I got the Ice White color and really like it. I liked the lighter gray control panel. You can use convection by time and temp or preprogramed items and its fairly intuitive. At first I didnt want the wider door but got used to that easily. The under cooktop light is front and center and borderline brightness. Its a 25 w incandescent and maybe can be replaced easily. There are 2 filters in the back which can be removed and washed. The manual says there is a charcoal filter that should be replaced every 6 months but I havent found it yet. It plays a soft electronic tune when its done. The control panel buttons are not lit and could be a trace bigger but its fine. The fan has 4 speeds and just the top one is really loud the others not bad. This has a lot of features for a good price. The view window is large so you can see food cooking. It has a 30 second button. The clock is blue and stays on. So far am pleased.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Microwave Looks great and I love the features. It's pretty intuitive, but I'm perplexed that there is no documentation of how the use the features. I'm used to seeing a whole cook book with other appliance purchases. The convection feature is great and cooks very evenly, but I question the temperature accuracy. To cook a thin crust frozen pizza, I must both raise the temperature and cook longer. The best improvement over a 15 year old Whirlpool, is that the engineers realized it is not necessary to constantly remind me that the microwave door is open. I had once decided that I would never own another Whirlpool because of this. The tones are much more pleasing than they used to be as well. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

The convection feature let's us bake potato's, bake bread and cook prepared, uncooked foods while also being able to heat foods and liquids as a conventional microwave. It makes more sense for us now that there is just 2 of us. It saves heating up the large oven to do the baking. I make bread at home and am able to bake 2 small loaves at the same time. They come out just as well as they do when baked in the oven. Food heats up quicker that our previous mic and overall we're very satisfied with it. We had an issue with the ventilation fan ticking loudly at the highest speed setting. One call to Whirlpool and a technician was out to replace the fan within 3 days of our call. The one thing we do find annoying is the whine from the ventilation fan. It's moderately loud and a bit irritating to us. We're very pleased with all other aspects of it's performance.
