This freezer is in our garage, but even then I've noticed that it is very quiet. It shuts off when the right temperature is reached (it doesn't constantly run like other freezers do when people have complained about the noise). The door seals really well. It's the perfect size. I wish it had an external and/or internal temperature gauge, but I bought one for the interior for under $10. Other than that, this freezer suits us perfectly. I also purchased the 5-year protection plan - price was very reasonable and gives me added peace of mind.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Retired2005 Love this freezer
I knew when I bought the freezer I wanted the many features but it had no lock on the door and the electric cord could have been longer since I had to use an outlet to the side in the garage. The delivery people showed me the issue with reversing the door: that the light switch would not turn off automatically. I love honesty in delivery people. I am still going to reverse the door and use freezer tape to keep the light from being on all the time. When I needed to further adjust the front feet to fix a wobble, it was easy to have someone tilt the empty freezer so I could turn the leveling feet. This upright with the bottom basket is so much easier to use than my former chest freezer. I am glad I made the purchase

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jerry Happy to have a new unit
Our old freezer was 12 years old when we purchased it "used" from some friends. It lasted 21 years longer but was a manual defrost and the seal was failing. Fearing the end was near we purchased this brand new freezer that is frost free, has a temperature monitor alarm, a power indicator light, and a compact 15.8 cu. ft. of space for my wife and I which is more than enough now that the kids are gone. It seems quiet enough but, I admit, it is in our garage so any excess noise is not audible anyway. It has an interior light which is great and frankly we are very happy with the unit so far!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Linda Toss your food..same result
My 9 month old freezer died while we were out of town (of course)... was a balmy 68 degrees inside the stupid thing this afternoon when we got home..the result was a loss of over $500 worth of food. The alarm was beeping...not that we could even hear it even while upstairs (freezer is in basement). Still haven't dealt with Whirlpool..hope for some reimbursement and a different freezer. Wish I could get rid of this one altogether and not have to even have it repaired. I will never trust it again, nor will I EVER buy another product from Whirlpool.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by baitisj Reversing the door difficult, defrost issues after 1 yr
We purchased this freezer in 2013 and it performed well for a year. Reversing the door was rather problematic because the door moulding doesn't interface with the interior light switch in a very robust manner. We had to loosen all the casing screws on the thermostat surround in order to position it so that the door would close properly. The defrost timer failed in the unit just outside of the 1 year warranty.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Deck the Halls Does the job!!
We bought the upright freezer a couple of months ago and have been very pleased with it. We needed it for extra freezer storage since our refrigerator freezer is very small. The amount of space is ample for storing all of our excess food items. It is very quiet and keeps the food extremely cold. With extra freezer space, we make a monthly trip to Costco and stock up on sale items. This model does not have the "open door" alarm but is not necessary because it has a very tight seal on the door frame. The price is very reasonable compared to the savings you receive buying sale food items. I highly recommend it!!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by RichardJ Ice Build Up
Freezer has worked fine for a few years but had ice built dip in bottom, to a point where lower drawer was stuck. Looked in back of freezer and found defrost poly drain tube crimped, just above compressor. No flow. Cut off the crimped section and installed a 90 degree nylon barb fitting. Fortunately had enough room in my fridge freezer to hold the frozen food, so no loss. Turned off freezer and let it thaw enough to remove the ice. Removed the evaporator cover (4 Phillips screws) and chipped away the ice in drain. Poured hot water in drain with a turkey baster until it flowed. Reassembled and freezer back on in good order. The drain tube is a bad design, should have come from factory with a barb or PEX elbow. Otherwise, no complaints. For the price this is obviously made in China so it's a consumable product. I you have lots of money tied up in frozen meat or seafood, which may cost more than the freezer to replace, it may be wise to look at a high end product. This isn't one of them.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Stitches Complete meltdown within 2 months
Purchased this item less than two months ago and came home to a complete mess after work. Yes it was plugged in, and NO the door was not open. While we were throwing out an entire freezer full of meet, the freezer did not even attempt at trying to run. Luckily we have a great local distributor who we won't have any problems dealing with. I know Whirpool is a great brand and will probably buy from them again. Just wanted to ensure that Whirpool knew that there was a faulty one out there. On the positive note- I learned it was VERY easy to clean! Shelves slide out easily and there are next to no nooks and crannies to collect dirt.
