Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hooked on compactors Finishes match other brands
When updating my kitchen I purchased another brand for dishwasher, ovens, fridge. I have had a compactor for 15 years (an old kenmore) and I needed a compactor with a stainless finish and handle to match the other brand I purchased because they did not make a compactor. Very few brands do make compactors so it is important that this Whirlpool can coordinate with other stainless appliances. This Whirlpool compactor had the stainless finish and handle that just fit the bill. It looks great close to the dishwasher and you could not even tell they were made by someone else. I like the feature of the controls inside the compactor which gives it a sleek and uncluttered look. Fit right into my space with ease.

We bought this to replace a 30 year old workhorse, also by Whirlpool. While the old one still functioned, it had become a little "long in the tooth" and we wanted to update the style to match our other newer appliances. So far it works superbly. The door seems a bit more "flimsy" than the old one, but that seems to be pretty common for all brands of the newer models. It hasn't really made any difference in how the unit performs. Probably just an attempt by the manufacturer to save a little weight in the unit. So far, very pleased.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Trashman Broke within 8 months - that's over $100 per month!
We had a KitchenAid for 10 years, but when upgrading our kitchen we decided to upgrade to a stainless trash compactor. The first unit we went with was a GE Profile. That lasted only a few years, then the motor burned out. We decided to go with whirlpool this time and bought this unit. A short 8 months later the unit started making a banging noise (upper limit not working) and started smelling like it was burning up. Thank God we found our original receipt and we're within the 12 month warranty period. Word to the wise: keep your records on any compactor you buy AND get an extended warranty!! In this day and age, how hard is it to manufacture a compactor? It's got to be one of the most basic types of appliances - a motor turns a crank, the crank pushes down a plunger, and then returns the plunger to the starting position! At roughly $1,000 for a compactor, you'd think SOMEONE could make one that lasts!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Carr2000 Clean lines and soft sounding mechanics
I actually purchased all the appliances that match this compactor. I love the clean lines and have had great durability from all the other appliances EXCEPT the refrigerator! I've noticed scratches and a small dent on the door of my fridge and I've only had it since December! Very disappointing considering the amount of money we've invested!

We had our new compactor installed in October and have been very pleased with it. We looked at several models and options before selecting the whirlpool compactor, glad we made the right choice! I would highly recommend it.

Clean look, simple on switch. Only feature lacking is a hold button to keep the piston fully deployed.
