I have read other reviews where the homeowners have said they have installed the WDF518SAAM in older homes (i.e. 23" cabinets), but Whirlpool Team has said (below) that this is not possible. I'm confused. If not, what other model fits in shallow cabinets?

Answer:
MidnightShopper,
The actual product depth of this model is 22". The suggested cut out depth is 24". By only having 23" you are very limited in the back of the appliance to the wall/cabinet to make all of the necessary connections for installation. It might work, but it is not what is suggested for a typical installation. I am not aware of dishwashers made for a shallower depth. Thank you for viewing this

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 78 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by working great A tiny dishwasher that cleans well. It runs very quiet. April 16, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I cannot believe how well this thing works! I have a very small studio in Chicago with a super tiny kitchen however for resale value, I wanted to add a dishwasher because it's so rare to find. I was extremely skeptical buying an 18", I felt it was a huge risk but I really wanted a dishwasher in the space. I'm not sure if it's just a fluke, but this thing is great. It's washed better than any 30" dishwasher I've ever owned. I can attest to the noise level since I slept about 10 feet from it and it's really not bad at all. Most importantly, my dishes were always clean the first time! April 15, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very Disappointed In The Quality The main circuit board went haywire after less than a year. I expect better quality from Whirlpool! May 10, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Quiet but the space just doesn't work I have owned this dishwasher for about two months now. I enjoy the noise (or lack of noise). I've tried the heated dry and it works well. I usually do not use the heated dry and simply leave the door cracked open for a while (usually while I'm at work). As long as the dishes are placed to avoid pooling of water, the dishes dry on their own completely. The main issue with the dishwasher is the design of the racks. On the upper rack, the "bump" in the rack makes it so you can't fit wine glasses (or anything of that height). But the lower rack is where the real issues are. The spacing is horrible. Too small for pans, but too wide for plates. Pretty much useless, as anything smaller will fall right through the bottom of the rack. Can't fit many of my pans in here at all (even one at a time, they just don't fit right). I was able to help this problem but pulling apart the double utensil basket and only using the one basket (still fits 24 utensils on its own, can put the other back in should I need more, but I haven't yet). I wish I had been able to see this dishwasher in the store before purchasing, because I certainly would not have gone with this dishwasher. February 9, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect size for my kitchen Holds more dishes than expected considering the size of the item March 15, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by small space, perfect dishwasher solution I have a smaller kitchen in my apartment and this Whirlpool model has worked out perfectly so far. Relatively quiet, you can hear the dishwasher running but it's not annoyingly loud. It has the expected options, the time-delay feature is perfect for setting for after you leave or overnight. Just enough room with or without the silverware holder, the cleaning is perfect everything I've so far. Yes, the drying agent light for refilling could use a redesign, it's not impossible to see but is annoyingly hard at times. Overall, it's worth purchasing. Don't waste for money for the same options/performance, don't spend less just to save a buck, buy this model and you'll be happy IMO. July 3, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Buy Its an 18" but it fits a lot of dishes and cleans large loads well. We went with the 18 inch dishwasher in place of a full because that is what was there when we moved in. I am happy with how well it works and it has a clean look. February 16, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by The worst experience I have had in a long time... Purchased the product online, was delivered and installed. Worked less than a week and will now not run at all. Because I did not buy the extended warranty Home Depot tells me they can do nothing for me and I must deal with Whirlpool. Whirlpool has taken three weeks to tell me that they cannot send a out a service rep because we live in the mountain of Colorado and therefore "there are not authorized service technicians". Their solution they provided is call a local appliance repair company, have them fix it (which I will need to pay for) and then fax the invoice to Whirlpool who will reimburse me "up to $150". The worst buying and customer service experience i have had in a very long time. I will certainly not use either Home Depot or Whirlpool EVER again! November 10, 2015
