I have very limited space and was forced to purchase and 18 inch dishwasher. I had many reservations, and was certain I would still be doing lots of dishes by hand given the size. I was extremely surprised by how much can be loaded into this little baby. The interior layout is well thought out and I have no trouble getting everything in. The first time I used it, I purposely used extra dishes to see how this would go. I actually had extra space and could have put quite a bit more in. Before I bought this dishwasher, I researched for 5 months. What I found is that there are the cheaper models, but they often leak and have plastic bottoms. I've had quite a few Whirlpool products over time and have had only good fortune with their products. By the way, the delivery service was extremely good.
I do not find the dishwasher noisy. It's not silent, but I was in the room next to the kitchen and could easily watch TV, talk on the phone, etc. without the noise interfering. It's actually much quieter that my previous dishwasher.

Rated 3 out of 5Â by mbluefan Summary of the good, the bad, and the ugly for this 18" Whirlpool dishwasher
The good: We liked that this model had nice features that were easily accessible from a touchpad and that it was Energy Star rated. So far the unit has done a great job of cleaning our dishes.
The bad: Though this unit does have insulation to reduce the sound when it is in operation, it is definitely not quiet, and we only operate it when we're not planning to be in the same room for an extended period of time. I personally feel that the price for all apartment-sized dishwashers is too high, and this washer was no exception. On the plus side, it was hundreds less than the "top" 18-inch models. I rated the value as fair.
The ugly: Two things I was disappointed by: 1) The front of the dishwasher has a big, gaudy, "Whirlpool" brand mark that doesn't appear in the picture. It consists of raised, silver, script lettering that's approximately 3" high and 7" wide. 2) The kick plate below the door comes in two pieces and is a serious pain to take on/off. This does allow the height of the dishwasher to be customized without leaving a gap, but will be impractical to remove to clean the floor at/under the base.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Andre POOR Service by Whirlpool
I bought this dishwasher to replace an old GE dishwasher. Not much choices for 18 in. dishwashers. I bought it online on 5/4/14 and got it delivered very quick on 5/9, about a month later my tenant text me that the dishwasher is not working anymore. So I call Whirlpool, each time I call it takes almost 30 minutes before you get to talk to someone. On June 20th the 1st service visit, he checks a wire is loose. The dishwasher electronics turn on and off after he left and it sometimes works and sometimes it does not. My tenant notifies me again that it does not work. I called the service company direct and set apt for 7/11/14. The dishwasher electronics is turning on and off by it self (check the video), but will not wash dishes. There is a something wrong with the electronics. The tech comes and checks and still not working, he will have to order a part. I call Whirlpool waiting over 30 minutes to talk to someone. Not a very productive conversation, not even I am sorry our product does not work. I asked to talk to a manager, was told he will tell me the same, I had to request to speak to a manager 2 times, after placed on HOLD to long, I hung up (over 50 minutes on the phone). He kept saying Whirlpool is administering the warranty, I am not sure what that means. I paid $737.83 after install/ taxes and I don't have a working dishwasher. Today 7/15 I called the service provider and was informed that they had to order 1 part from Whirlpool, which will be expedited, but will not know till 7/23 when the service can be scheduled. Very poor service and I can't believe that it takes that much time to get it fixed. I am a Landlord and have responsibilities. Would love to be contacted by Whirlpool and get this solved.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Dave Great small size dishwasher
This dishwasher is a great value at its price, many other models were more expensive for not much more in features. The dishwasher is solidly made and cleans dishes really well! It's not super quiet that's true but you can watch TV or have a conversation with no problem. There is also a delayed start if u want to run it while you're asleep or out of the house, I have not used this yet as the sound does not bother me. I have not had the dishwasher very long but so far it is one of the best purchases I've made in a long, long time.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by sunnyskies Cleans quite well and fit where most others couldn't
My house is from 1926 and has 23" deep counters and 22" deep space from the back of the cabinet inside to the front of the the cab outside. I searched and searched and finally decided on this model as a balance between price, ratings and the ability to fit into my space. I've installed three DWs in my day now and this one went quite smoothly. Using it is a pure joy! What was once a daily chore that took time and cluttered our counters until it was done now is so much easier. I didn't have high expectations for the level of noise it put out but have found the noise to be non-obtrusive. It has cleaned just fine on normal setting with us giving our dishes a quick rinse before putting them in. I'm still not quite sure how to load the rinse aid. Does it get loaded every time or only when the resivoir gets depleted? There is a window you're supposed to look through to tell when you have filled the res enough but I could see no difference even the first time I filled it. Perhaps that's related to my next comment which is that the heated dry, which we always use gets the dished on their way to being but does not thoroughly dry them. All in all it's cute, quiet, stainless inside (which I like) and great at cleaning my dishes so I'm very happy with my purchase!
