Answer:
Sam35,
The fan is used to help keep the control panel cooled. It is typically not that noticeable. Whirlpool Corporation is constantly looking to improve products. This shouldn't be an issue. Thank you for viewing this Whirlpool home appliance.

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 161 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Whirlpool double electric wall oven Looks nice and adds a modern touch to kitchen. It makes a noise while running. Sounds like a fan . Might be helpful to someone who tends to forget to shut off. Otherwise, could do without! August 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Oven for the price! Had it installed last week! Cooks great. We don't find the Fan all that loud. Our Old Oven never had one but I have had Blodgett Oven 's in My Bakery and the fans sound about the same. May 29, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good oven at a reasonable price We've been using this oven for about a month now and have been cooking away to make sure we know how well it works. It takes some time to get rid of the "new oven" smell. It also took a while to get it to even and consistent cooking. I had to calibrate the heat a little bit to avoid some burning, but it seems like a pretty solid oven now. Installed myself and even did my own cabinet modifications to get it to fit (previously had a separate wall oven and microwave). April 7, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by WORST APPLIANCE EVER I had this oven for 1 day and tried to cook in it. Guess what? It takes 2 hours for it to heat to 350 degrees. Home Depot sent the Service Dept. man over and he told us it needed a new part that he did not have. Since I have not been able to cook anything in it and have had it for all of 2 days Home Depot says it cannot replace it, must fix it. Not only that, but I now find out that Whirlpool has seen fit to design these ovens to take all of 20 minutes to get to the degrees you set it to. Say what? Whoever came up with this doozy was not a cook, obviously. My old model worked perfectly for 13 years. What have you done? Needless to say, if there was a rating less than poor I would give it. Home Depot's Manager says we cannot return it and too bad we didn't buy the extended warranty. What? It's supposed to come with a one year warranty. How about 48 hours? Will never buy from Home Depot again. January 27, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very noisy cooling fan Do not buy this oven if your house is open. The cooling fan can be heard in my master bedroom, 70 feet from the kitchen. It continues to run long after baking easily disturbing your dinner party. January 30, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Double Oven The dual oven is a basic model with good features. It functions well, however, the fan is noisy and loud. January 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So far so good--one installation tip Got our new ovens in from Home Depot today. Installation with two other guys went smooth except for putting the oven doors back on. When you take the doors off be sure you do not let the hinges fold back into the locked position. If you do it is not easy to get them out of the locked position so you can put them back on. I actually googled "putting oven door back on Whirlpool oven" to see a video on how to do it. We literally had to use a a piece of pipe to leverage the hing out of locked position which was easy but was very scary not know what we might bend or scratch. The hinges are so strong you just can't grab them with your hands and pull them out of locked position. Whirlpool does not have an installation help line but I called their customer service and they did not know how to do it and wanted to send a tech out. Long story short---putting the doors back on is very simple if the hinges are not in the locked position. These ovens are the largest capacity we could find in a 27 inch width and are very nice. Will update after using them for a while. I do not find the noise the oven fan makes that others have mentioned that loud. December 16, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by UPDATE TO REVIEW POSTED OCT 29, 2013 - AFTER REPAIR See post October 29, 2013 Oven was repaired on October 31, 2013 by a qualified Whirpool technician - sent by Whirlpool. The technician replaced the control (circuit board) panel and clock. He said that there were no other parts that could be affecting the oven's performance. The oven continued to power down when preheating after the repairs. I would need to cancel the bake and start again to get the oven to preheat and even after doing that, the temperature would begin to drop 200F or more. Today it completely died during a 2 hour self clean mode! I will be asking that the oven be removed and full credit applied back to my HD account. I will be looking for a different brand.
