I made the bad decision to leave my 15-yr old Kenmore Washer at my previous residence when I moved. I loved that washer, which was made in a "golden age" of appliances that were high quality and looked good. In the past 5-7 years appliances have sharply declined in quality and value: new appliances break all the time. I wanted another old-school washer, and among the standard top-loaders Whirlpool is rated high.
Pros: looks good, is relatively quiet, and get clothes clean using a normal wash cycle
Cons: takes forever to fill with water, the delicate cycle is so delicate its basically useless (doesn't even agitate enough to distribute the detergent, and clothes are not clean when its finished); And you cannot soak your clothes: you can pause the cycle, but after about 7-8 minutes on pause, the washer drains all the water out and turns off, so you have to start over.
If you can find a used but working washer over ten years old, buy it and keep it. Pay the money to get it repaired. These new machines are just inferior.

At a sale price, this washer is a very good value. It uses a traditional agitator and has a large capacity. The wash cycles are not excessively long. So far, it has been good at keeping loads balanced, and the high-speed spin gets a lot of water out of the clothes. There are only a few negatives: (1) it is rather loud during the wash agitating cycles, because by design the motor reverses back and forth to move the agitator with a throbbing sound; (2) you can only stop the cycle for soaking for 10 minutes before it starts over again (although I haven't tried unplugging the power cord during the soak as some have suggested); and (3) the energy efficient design keeps you from using completely hot or completely cold water.

I reluctantly gave up my old washer due to too many repairs needed, but this new one is good. It does the job. The clothes come out clean, and I can control water levels, etc. which apparently you cannot do on all machines these days. I don't understand any negative reviews on this washer, as it does what it says it will do. I would recommend, especially at the sale price. Delivery of it, however, did not go well.

I don't have any issues with the features of this machine. However, I had my previous machine for 13 years before anything went wrong. I had this machine less than a year and had to get a repair. It stopped working in the middle of a load of clothes. It was a huge inconvenience and very unexpected because the machine was new. I will say that Whirlpool had good customer service and everyone was pleasant. I work so I was a little displeased that they only had daytime appointments and the appointment window was 4 hours. I had to take half a day from work to have it fixed. I'm hoping I don't have anymore trouble from it for a while.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by cwatt Love this tub!!!! (8
Lost my Kenmore to old age.)8. After reading thousands and thousands of reviews and asking everyone I know and some that I didn't, I picked the Whirlpool 3.6 washer. I knew I didn't want a HE type, just an old school type. I am very pleased with my purchase. Have had for over 2 months now and it is everything I wanted in a new washer. The size of the tub is terrific. It holds and CLEANS huge loads of jeans: no problem. It also does beautifully on light delicate small loads. I don't hear any noises and the locking lid doesn't hamper me in the least. Read the instructions and it works just like my old one. It is perfect for me!!! and made in the USA!!!!!

This is my first set ever that I've had that was brand new and its amazing. All my other appliances have always been second hand. This year my husband an I decided to purchase a new set and we couldn't be happier. Our clothes are cleaner and even brighter. I was so used to a loud set that when we first started our I had yo call the appliance store to make sure there wasn't something wrong with it. Not to mention our water usage has gone down as well as our electric bill. All the way around we have saved money. What seemed to take us forever to do laundry we now do it once a week. We love our new set!

Purchased this washer a year or so ago. Same except the model number ends in XQ instead. I assume this is the newer version of it. This washer definitely falls under the "piece of junk category. I like the basic features ok since that's what I wanted, not a lot of bells and whistles I didn't need. It does an okay job for regular wash loads. HOWEVER, no matter how carefully I load the clothes to be even around all sides, it's gets completely unbalanced and starts the basket slamming against the side of the washer. You can even see it hitting from the outside. So I have to babysit it, stop it, wait for it to unlock, and constantly readjust the load. Stupid design. My last washer lasted 30 years with no problems until it died finally. So, if you're washing say, doll clothes, I guess it's okay. But don't even bother to wash sheets, a light blanket throw or, heaven forbid, beach towels! I spent this morning having to remove each sheet (it was only 2 sets) and spin dry them individually. I guess I'll have to go to the laundrymat if I ever want clean sheets again. I definitely would NOT purchase this washer again.

After having a front load washer for the last 6 years we finally got rid of that noisy piece of garbage and went back to a top load. This washer reminds me of the ones I grew up with. Simple controls, easy to use and actually cleans your clothes. Not to mention that it does a load in about 15 to 20 minutes. The front load washer we had could take 2 hours for a sanitary setting and the quickest wash it would program for was 35 minutes. I hope this washer lasts me for 20 to 30 years because I do not ever want to have to use another front loader and the unfortunate side to that is that even the top loaders they make now are He machines which are basically the same as the front loaders. But this little Gem of a washer is awesome.
