Bought 9/6/14. Washer stopped washing In April 2015 - fills up and drains right away. I suspect locking of the lid is not working. In-warranty service takes a week!!

I have had this washer about 3 months ago and have had no problems with it. Clothes always come out clean. I would suggest this product to anyone.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Lulu3341 I'm not in love
I made the bad decision to leave my 15-yr old Kenmore Washer at my previous residence when I moved. I loved that washer, which was made in a "golden age" of appliances that were high quality and looked good. In the past 5-7 years appliances have sharply declined in quality and value: new appliances break all the time. I wanted another old-school washer, and among the standard top-loaders Whirlpool is rated high.
Pros: looks good, is relatively quiet, and get clothes clean using a normal wash cycle
Cons: takes forever to fill with water, the delicate cycle is so delicate its basically useless (doesn't even agitate enough to distribute the detergent, and clothes are not clean when its finished); And you cannot soak your clothes: you can pause the cycle, but after about 7-8 minutes on pause, the washer drains all the water out and turns off, so you have to start over.
If you can find a used but working washer over ten years old, buy it and keep it. Pay the money to get it repaired. These new machines are just inferior.

At a sale price, this washer is a very good value. It uses a traditional agitator and has a large capacity. The wash cycles are not excessively long. So far, it has been good at keeping loads balanced, and the high-speed spin gets a lot of water out of the clothes. There are only a few negatives: (1) it is rather loud during the wash agitating cycles, because by design the motor reverses back and forth to move the agitator with a throbbing sound; (2) you can only stop the cycle for soaking for 10 minutes before it starts over again (although I haven't tried unplugging the power cord during the soak as some have suggested); and (3) the energy efficient design keeps you from using completely hot or completely cold water.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Cindy Lynn UNBELIEVABLY disappointed!
I bought this 5 months ago, but haven't used it regularly as we travel quite a bit. Loved the "made in America" sticker... no so sure now! I HATE the locking lid, and it WILL NOT CLEAN DIRTY CLOTHES! It barely agitates at all! I have seen clothes stay DRY on the top of the load. It won't even pull a slightly folded sock out straight! Had serviceman out, who "recalibrated" ... no difference whatsoever. I wish SOMEONE would tell me this isn't how it's supposed to work, and get it corrected. If this is the "new thing" in washing machines, I'm ready to dump it, and find a REAL good old fashioned WASHING machine!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Angel Cook Great washer and a great bargain
I bought this washer about a month ago because my old washer was having trouble spinning the water out of my clothes. I did plenty of research before my purchase, however, I felt like it was going to be a blind pick. I was looking for a traditional style top loader that performs with satisfaction. This washer is a top loader with digital functions. It gives plenty of options to choose the size, water temperature, how dirty of a load, how many rinses you need, etc. The tub size is perfect to me. I normally wash large loads at a time and it accommodates very easily. The wash time is reasonable and the digital screen shows you what phase of the wash cycle it's currently in so you will know when it's done. It's pretty quiet during the wash. My old washer was loud and it was washing really fast. This new washer spins the clothes so well, that you have a much quicker dry time. They come out of the wash feeling only damp. The only cons I have is that in the past, I would start a load of clothes and leave the top open so I could come back and add more clothes before closing the lid and starting the wash. With this washer, if you start a load of clothes and leave the lid open, you cannot come back and add clothes later because the washer will automatically drain all the water. You will have to start over. You can however, wait for the washer to fill completely and then pause it with the start button but I'm not sure how long it will pause before emptying. Once you start a load of clothes the machine will lock before starting. Also, when washing blankets, it's best to wash alone and balance the load otherwise you will hear the machine making a loud sound trying to balance the load out. And it may come out soaked. The good thing is that this washer has a drain & spin setting that you can use to get the excess water out. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase.
