Bought 9/6/14. Washer stopped washing In April 2015 - fills up and drains right away. I suspect locking of the lid is not working. In-warranty service takes a week!!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Lulu3341 I'm not in love
I made the bad decision to leave my 15-yr old Kenmore Washer at my previous residence when I moved. I loved that washer, which was made in a "golden age" of appliances that were high quality and looked good. In the past 5-7 years appliances have sharply declined in quality and value: new appliances break all the time. I wanted another old-school washer, and among the standard top-loaders Whirlpool is rated high.
Pros: looks good, is relatively quiet, and get clothes clean using a normal wash cycle
Cons: takes forever to fill with water, the delicate cycle is so delicate its basically useless (doesn't even agitate enough to distribute the detergent, and clothes are not clean when its finished); And you cannot soak your clothes: you can pause the cycle, but after about 7-8 minutes on pause, the washer drains all the water out and turns off, so you have to start over.
If you can find a used but working washer over ten years old, buy it and keep it. Pay the money to get it repaired. These new machines are just inferior.

At a sale price, this washer is a very good value. It uses a traditional agitator and has a large capacity. The wash cycles are not excessively long. So far, it has been good at keeping loads balanced, and the high-speed spin gets a lot of water out of the clothes. There are only a few negatives: (1) it is rather loud during the wash agitating cycles, because by design the motor reverses back and forth to move the agitator with a throbbing sound; (2) you can only stop the cycle for soaking for 10 minutes before it starts over again (although I haven't tried unplugging the power cord during the soak as some have suggested); and (3) the energy efficient design keeps you from using completely hot or completely cold water.

we have had our washer just under a year.Because of the push button start and pause we have had repeated problems. First we had it get stuck we were able to get it reset that time by the instructions. The last time I left it open filling, and had a phone call come in.When i went to put clothes in it was emptied back out and wouldn't reset no matter what we did.We had to call repair and they had to reset it on some computer board inside the washer. We found out after 10 minutes of the lid not being put down it automatically empties the water which why it got stuck in a drain mode! I will never buy a washer of any type that doesn't have dials.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Joey Made in the USA !!!
I bought this washer on May 21,2015 as a replacement for an older GE model which gave up after 15 years. We had to have a washer that was an exact match in terms of physical dimensions as the one being replaced due to space restrictions. This Whirlpool washer is the perfect size for us. And it's also Made in the USA, which was a factor in our decision to purchase it. The washer has a different washing cycle time than our previous one and it took a little bit of learning the differences. It's quieter and more efficient in terms of water conservation. So far, everything is working well. We hope to hang on to this machine for as long as it continues to serve us well.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Mary the not shy gal Great Features and ease of use
I bought a new Whirlpool washer approximately one month ago. I hated having to purchase a new one but my 20 year old washer finally had to go to the washer grave yard. My new Whirlpool is fantastic!!! It's quiet, it handles very large loads of blue jeans and work shirts, small loads of delicates, and regular size loads of shirts and other normal articles of clothing. It is great to have a large option of load sizes, water temperatures and wash times. I love the way the clothes come out, spot free, the spin cycles are wonderful, I have cut my drying time down at least 10 minutes per load. I would recommend this washer and have recommended it to many friends.

We just bought a new home that wasn't furnished with a washer or dryer so we went on the search for our first washer and dryer. We looked at a ton of brands and different styles when we decided on Whirlpool. We knew the quality would be great and when we compared the price to other competitors there was no question about what we were going to purchase. We have been using the washer now for 2 months and are thrilled with it's ability to clean even the worst stains. I love my red wine and ketchup and always seem to get some, or, a lot on me and it always comes out.We love how quite it is and all the settings it offers.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by caldon Worst purchase ever!
Purchased this washer a year or so ago. Same except the model number ends in XQ instead. I assume this is the newer version of it. This washer definitely falls under the "piece of junk category. I like the basic features ok since that's what I wanted, not a lot of bells and whistles I didn't need. It does an okay job for regular wash loads. HOWEVER, no matter how carefully I load the clothes to be even around all sides, it's gets completely unbalanced and starts the basket slamming against the side of the washer. You can even see it hitting from the outside. So I have to babysit it, stop it, wait for it to unlock, and constantly readjust the load. Stupid design. My last washer lasted 30 years with no problems until it died finally. So, if you're washing say, doll clothes, I guess it's okay. But don't even bother to wash sheets, a light blanket throw or, heaven forbid, beach towels! I spent this morning having to remove each sheet (it was only 2 sets) and spin dry them individually. I guess I'll have to go to the laundrymat if I ever want clean sheets again. I definitely would NOT purchase this washer again.
