Do you make a griddle pan that specifically fits the center burner of this range? It seems to be quite narrow.

Asked by: chris

This unit has an electric broiler. Is that for the Frozen Bake Technology? Why is it electric on a gas range?? What are the benefits of this?
Asked by: WonderingWanda
I think the picture of the oven is a misprint. The picture for the white model does indeed show electric heating elements. If you look at the exact stove, only in black or stainless, the picture of the oven shows a gas oven. No electric heating elements.

Can burners be ignited manually if the power is out?

Can burners be ignited manually if the power is out?
Asked by: Ranger
Yes, just use a match. They are dumb valves, with just a switch to indicate that they are on to the stove electronics.

30 in. 5.0 cu. ft. Slide-In Gas Range in White is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 49.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worked fine for like 5 days... I purchased this range on 11/11, had it delivered on 11/16, moved in on 11/21 and it went out on 11/24. Assessed by repair company on 11/26...and on 12/5, it still hasn't been repaired. Whirlpool said they wouldn't be replacing it...it was repairable, but whose regulator goes out after 4 days of use and then they have to wait over a week repair. Caveat Emptor... Rated 4 out of 5 by from When finally installed, we were completely satisfied with this product. Getting there, however, ... When finally installed, we were completely satisfied with this product. Getting there, however, had challenges. First, we got conflicting information as to whether HD delivery people would install the range. The final answer was we had to have a local permit for them to do so, and we opted to have our own plumber do the installation. The first range delivered had cracked valve, discovered by our plumber during his install. It only took a week to get a replacement, but the initial calls to the factory said it would take up to 72 hours for them to even process the request! The biggest disappointment was nowhere it in the sales materials could we find the explicit statement that the BROILER was ELECTRIC. Again, that was not necessarily a problem, but since we didn't know that, we didn't plan to have an electrician install a dedicated line (as recommended in the owners manual, deep in the fine print), at an additional expense. All of which is to say we would buy this gas slider ranger again - especially since now we know the score. If you are considering this product, now you know what we didn't know.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Quality from Delivery to Turkey Dinner. Silly printing glitch but nothing serious The range arrived quickly and the shipper called me a couple of days ahead of time so I was able to coordinate delivery with no difficulty. Unfortunately, I didn't have my rough-in ready, so the range had to wait in the garage for a while. Fortunately, the range was well packaged. I opened the box up to make sure there was no shipping damage, then taped it all back up again until I was ready to install. The brief wait did no harm. The only glitch, a printing error in the instruction set. My set of installation instructions were detailed up to page 12. They provided all I needed to know about locating the required natural gas and electrical service and installing the unit. Oddly though, the rest of the instructions were misprinted...after page 12 the instructions proceeded to provide a troubleshooting guide for KitchenAid refrigerator. A silly but harmless problem. I quickly was able to access the full set of instructions at Whirlpool's comprehensive website and confirmed that the only information I was missing were the detailed, but unnecessary instructions on how to convert from natural gas to propane. NOTE... All parts needed to make the propane conversion ARE provided with this range. Some things to remember if you are doing it yourself, or want to sound intelligent in front of your plumber and electrician: 1) Be sure that you can shut off the gas from a location adjacent to the range without removing the range first. You want to be able to shut off the gas before pulling the range out to clean behind it or repair it. 2) The range needs a 110VAC supply. In new construction you probably have this, but in old work, it is a pretty good idea to run a new line to put the range on it's own 15 Amp circuit breaker rather than one of the existing 20 Amp kitchen circuits you already have. Again, you want to be able to shut off the juice without killing the kitchen lights if you need to service the range. Be aware that mass of this range inspires confidence, but don't let it cause a hernia. It is a heavy appliance. The box is covered with warnings that you need at least two people to install it, and they are not messing with you. Even if you are Aaanold, get some help wrestling the unit around. Otherwise, if your rough-in is within the recommendations, installation is simple. Even so, home gamers, you are messing with natural gas, so get a plumber in to make the connections. Final set up is quite simple. The two piece burners drop easily and obviously into place and if you do dump oatmeal all over them, they come completely apart so you can clean them up. The subtop is all one piece, so unless you dump the entire soup pot out, you don't have to worry about anything running down inside the stovetop. The iron grates run all the way across the cooktop, so you don't have to worry about any normal sized pan tipping over and spilling if it isn't centered over the burner. There is also plenty of open space to set a hot pan on the stove but off the burner if that's what you need todo. Controls: Safety detents prevent the gas from flowing or the ignitors from igniting unless you deliberately push and turn the burner knob. But push and turn them and click, click, click the burners fire up. You'll love a gas range because the burner temperature is instantly at the temp you want...which is good when the oatmeal starts to boil over. And when the oatmeal DOES boil over, the cooktop is dead simple to clean up. The grates come completely off so you can stuff them in the oven while you access the burners. The two piece burners come completely apart and completely off and I can't see any reason why you couldn't just run them through the dishwasher. The top plate of the burner generally prevents any spillage from reaching the lower part of the burner and anything spilled there is going to burn off harmlessly. If anything gets inside the burner, you can easily take it apart to clean, and anything else should be contained within the tray of the subtop to be easily wiped up. Unless you upend the entire boiler of soup (in which case you have a much bigger mess than just a soiled stove top) you just aren't going to get anything down inside the inner workings of this cooktop. The oven controls are a bit more complex, but well within the capability of anyone who can use a smart phone. Choose bake, use the up/down time/temp control to set the desired temperature. Press start and the oven beeps at you when it gets to the desired temperature. It has lots of other features, none of which I have tried yet...well the self cleaning is simple enough and leaves a pile of ash in the bottom of the oven just like any other self cleaning oven I have ever used. To sum up, this is a good looking unit, it feels heavy, solid, and durable, the controls and features are well thought out, the installation is straightforward and the delivery service was great. We love it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for the price This range does not have all of the fancy features of the higher-priced models but it works perfectly well for most applications. I especially like the cast iron grates that cover the whole top and the fact that it is very easy to clean the surface. The manual was more confusing than necessary because Whirlpool choose to save money by having one manual for multiple models. I was disappointed by customer service's response to a question. I received a canned answer that simply referred me to the less than adequate manual. That's not what I was hoping for since I am in the market for a number of other major appliances. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really nice lookin Stove, like hybrid oven This stove is very attractive when installed. The cook top with easy sliding pans around if nice. I can use cast iron cookware again without my wife complaining about the glass cooktop. :) The top cast iron sections are dishwasher safe for easy clean up. The rubber feet fit into divots in the cook top to hold in location. (See photos.) The two sides hook together to keep from spreading as well. The burner breaks down for cleaning easily. The oven is a hybrid of gas burner on bottom and electric on top. This helps address one of my complains of a gas oven, uneven heating. It also means that you need to look at the power load for the 120V plug you are using for this stove. I ran gas and electric to this, as I was replacing an Electric only (240V) range. The controls functioned logically. My only real complain is the timer. It sounds off like a rice cooker tune and only repeats 3 times and it fairly quiet. This doesn't work for me at all. I'm not concerned with waking a baby, while cooking. I'm concerned with missing a timer and ruining what is in the oven. Not really having any other complaints about the range. I can use a separate kitchen timer and usually do. I love to be cooking with gas again. I have not put a large cast iron griddle on the top, but plan to. There is enough space to allow a drain hole and pan under the grate. This will be great for breakfast with the extended family and acting like we have a large diner griddle.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Kitchen Remodel While we have only had our new range for less than a month, it has already exceeded our expectations. I've had the opportunity to deal with Whirlpool's customer service, who provided me with quick solution to our problem(we received the wrong burner caps). Replacing them free of charge. Oven burns a little hotter than our previous appliance(practice makes perfect). We love the look of our new range, looks great for our first appliance purchase in our upcoming kitchen remodel. Very happy with our purchase so far! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from very rapid cooktop heating have the stove less than 1 month - installation was a snap. cooktop heats very quickly. not sure why all burners click to ignite when only 1 is turned on - however, once the burner that is selected ignites, the other burners stop clicking. a bit hard to keep the ceramic surface and the information panel clean and the grates - with only minimal use so far - get scratched a bit easily....you have to be on top of the cleaning all areas. the timer would have been easier if one was was able to set the timer without clicking up/down for however long you want the oven to be on...simply having the option to just "punch in" the time would have been an easier option. otherwise, stylish. Rated 5 out of 5 by from A professional upgrade This is definitely an upgrade compared to my last range. The cook top is great, you don't have to worry about not having enough room. Since the grates cover the whole cook top you have plenty of room and can use large pots as needed. The grates are made out of cast iron so they are very sturdy and easier to keep clean. I have a curious one year old so the knobs being on top is an added plus. We did have a problem with the oven actually igniting. We had to have it serviced and the oven igniter had to be replaced, so make sure that the oven actually comes on and heats before the installers leave. Home depot was great about scheduling the repair service, and at no cost to me. The stove and oven work great now. I am still testing out the bells and whistles.
