Looking for a replacement microwave to replace a built-in microwave with trim kit. Cabinet cutout is 28 1/4"W x 19"H. Finish: Stainless. Which Whirlpool model might fit right in, or require only minor adjustments to cabinet? Attached pics showing existing with and without trim Thank you

What material is the face made of?

Some of the reviews for this item claim that the trim kit is plastic. The description says it is stainless steel. I can understand that the backing might be plastic, but is the face of the trim kit that you see metal or plastic? Thanks!
Asked by: HomeownerInTX
It is entirely plastic with a simulated stainless steel sticker on the front. If they stamped it out of stainless it would cost $60, manufacturer could make 200% on retail sale and you would have a kitchen fixture that lasts a lifetime. Instead you can look forward to having to fit out this manufacturers appliance with a kit made from $13 in plastic, pay a markup of 1000% and for that privilege be the proud owner of a plastic trim ring that might hold up as long as the water filter in your fridge.

30 in. Microwave Trim Kit in Stainless Steel is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed with quality It looks okay but it's a very thin layer of stainless steel over flimsy plastic. You can actually see waves in the frame because that plastic is so cheap.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Mw trim Looks easy but not for a retrofit. Needs to be a straight on application, with no protrusions

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The description of this trim kit is deceptive. It says "in stainless steel" it is actually cheap plastic with a faux finish. I replaced my previous Whirlpool Microwave and trim kit with this new one. I was informed my old trim kit would not work with a new microwave. My previous trim kit was from Whirlpool and it was quite nice; it was actually stainless steel, no worries about breakage or scratching. HOWEVER, the new one is cheap plastic. The instructions even warn you about overtightening screws because it will break. I'm quite concerned the faux finish on the plastic trim kit will easily be scratched as we take items in and out of the microwave in a very busy kitchen.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great look I purchased this trim kit to go with a microwave in my newly remodeled kitchen as a built in for my island. The measurements for the microwave were given to my cabinet designer and the opening was cut in the island for the microwave. I assumed the trim kit would fit, however, this was not the case. If you purchase this trim make sure the dimensions of the trim are configured into the opening for the microwave because this trim accommodates several different microwaves. When the trim was installed it was too big so I had to have my island cut down and lost a large drawer beneath it to make the trim fit. Now instead of having a large deep drawer I have a much narrower drawer. But all in all the trim does look nice. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer Beware You would think that when an item costs $135+ shipped and is titled “Trim Kit in STAINLESS STEEL” that it would actually be, you know, stainless steel. Terrible assumption on my part as this item is actually black plastic with a sticker on the front face made to look like metal. My mistake was thinking that by paying more for just the built-in kit than what you would pay for an actual countertop microwave appliance would ensure receiving a quality product from Whirlpool/HD. Incorrect assumption, buyer beware.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not bad I only had one problem - with the install kit. The provided screws were too soft - the drive in the head stripped out too easily, even with a slightly larger pilot hole than recommended. Then when I tried to back the screw out with an extractor, that stripped out too. I was finally able to back out the provided screw with a pair of small vise-grips. I substituted some higher quality screws and everything went smooth after that. The microwave is nice, though I notice a little nick in the plastic on the keypad. It's as if there is another thin protective film, but I already removed one, so I'm reluctant to see if a second film peels back to reveal a pristine keypad or if I get stuck with an ugly keypad... Overall, we're happy with the product. It works well and looks nice - matching the other stainless Whirlpool appliances in the kitchen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A GREAT LOOK If the cut-out is within the suggested range, it is easy to install (4 screws) and it looks great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective trim kit and poor experience with Home Depot My whirlpool trim kit was poorly made. It came with 2 creases on the face of the product making it appear as it was dented. Also, one of the corners was damaged. You could tell this product wasn't actually damaged, just poorly made. It appears that Whirlpool quality isn't what it use to be. They should of never shipped this product in the condition it was in.
