Why is this oven only 20 amps Most wall ovens are 240 with 40 amp breakers

Asked by: Tony
Most RANGES are 40 amp, but here, you don't have the 4 burners on top. Maybe a double wall oven would be a 40 amp circuit.

Customer Reviews

30 in. Single Electric Wall Oven Self-Cleaning in Black is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 587.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't even think about buying this oven We bought this oven as part of a complete kitchen remodel and we have tolerated it for over a year now trying to get it to work properly. My wife is a great cook and loves to bake, and has never had problems with ovens before but this one has literally reduced her to tears. Any baked goods do not rise properly and others are overcooked regardless of whether it is used on convection or conventional mode. We have had 4 authorized service guys in, had the thermostat changed, the temperature sensor changed, had it re-calibrated , all to no avail, and then one of the guys told us they get a whole lot of similar complaints and the only thing to do is to pre-heat it 10 degrees higher than you want it and then leave 20 minutes before cooking blah blah blah....Which didn't make any difference at all, and why should you have to do this anyway just to achieve a predictable cook? As if that's not bad enough, it is without doubt the noisiest oven I have ever had. When it's running it sounds like a poorly fitted window in a gale, and even when you're done it still carries on whistling and howling as it goes through it's cooling cycle. I know it's not just a bad apple because some nearby neighbors of ours purchased exactly the same model and have gone thru' exactly the same as us. If you're a serious cook DO NOT buy this oven. We are about to replace it and are both reticent about selling it because we do not want somebody else to have the same experience, so I may just have to write it off. I'm also really annoyed that I deliberately elected to buy an American built product, only to discover that it is so poorly designed. Needless to say we complained to Whirlpool several times and asked if they would take it back but they were not interested.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Buyer beware! the oven itself works fine if you're not trying to bake brownies, muffins, cakes, etc. I have had 5 service calls in 3 months. The temperature gauge sounds in 7-8 minutes that the oven is pre-heated (standard heat). At that point the internal temperature is about 230 degrees. If you want to bake something for 15 minutes at 400 degrees, it's not going to happen. If you're willing to set a timer for 20 minutes and then put it in the oven, it will bake. Basically it's an okay oven without an internal temperature indicator. False advertising about its features.

It has worked well, except bread never seemed to bake right. after the first year I noticed all around the glass window was rusting, which didn't look very nice but it was still working otherwise, so I let it go. now 5 days before thanksgiving , I set the clean cycle and it completely shut down, is locked and froze up. I'm really mad , mad really isn't the word but I'm being civil here. No matter what, I know it wont be fixed by thanksgiving, so I guess I have to make new arrangements for my whole extended family dinner, and it doesn't seem according to other reviews, that it will be cost effective to fix or if I should just buy a new oven that will definitely not be another whirlpool. It wasn't a cheap oven, I expected more then 3 years out of it.

It takes at least a half hour to get up the the heat you set. Then once you put the food in, you have to keep an eye on the oven temperature. It can go up or down. To lower it you have to open the door for a while; to raise it you have to set it above the temp you actually want. You can't bake anything sensitive in it, e..g. a souffle. For sensitive baking, I have to drive to my daughter's house and use her oven. Don't think the warranty can save you. It's worthless. I've called a repairman three times. The result: Whirlpool says that a repairman has to find it unrepaiirable but the authorized repairman tells me that Whirlpool doesn't allow him to do that. So I'm stuck with this oven until I can afford to buy another. I should have paid attention to other reviews which said not to buy it. Dumb me.

The oven died. Followed the Whirlpool troubleshooting guide which began with contact an electrician if the oven has no power. Turns out the oven was receiving power fine, but was just dead, so more $$ down the drain for the electrician service. An internet search quickly brought to light that this self cleaning self destruction cycle is well documented and well known, and apparently Whirlpool doesn't care. I put up with uneven baking for 3 years. It wasn't bad - an annoyance I learned to live with by rotating pan midway through to get even results. To now have it die when using a "feature" we paid extra for.....well it's just unacceptable. Guess we may not have Thanksgiving turkey this year after all. We're going to try to repair ourselves using the many DIY guides found online because this oven isn't worth any more $$. If we can't fix it ourselves we'll buy a new oven and you can rest assured it will not be a Whirlpool or any other brand associated with/owned by the same company.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pure Junk (Review is NOT a Sweepstakes Entry) I really wish I could give this a zero star rating. I won't even talk about the fan noise (although, in the future, please design the fan and flow features to match the openings - it might cut down on the whistling). We have had issues with this thing (hesitate to call it an oven) keeping temperature. We noticed differences of 20-30 degrees in usage. The technician just came by and ran his tests. He was curious and called Whirlpool. He was told a 25-30 degree difference is expected. So, if you set it for 150, it can run as high as 380 or as low as 320 and Whirlpool says it is designed to do this. Also, when the pre-heat timer goes off, the thing is not ready for usage. You must wait another 10-15 minutes before use. The timer is really a timer, just a ding to let you know the oven is running (besides the fan noise). This is also by design per Whirlpool CSR. This design makes no sense. Why would you even have a 'setting' if the device can go almost 10% in either direction. To justify this, they take high and low readings, then average and say the average is the basis. Kinda like if you got pulled over for speeding then told the cop..."but my average was 35, not the 50 you just saw me do". Really, Whirlpool, this is your position? You sell equipment that can't even keep within 5 degrees of a setting AND have a feature that doesn't function like a normal person is used to? Every other oven we have had or worked with (many years in professional kitchens) doesn't seem to have this issue. Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM. Poor design and junk support. It is actually an unusable item - no serious baking can occur in this thing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very loud fan!! After using the oven two times, both times the fan stayed on for 40 minutes cooling the oven down. You could not enjoy a dinner with friends with this noise. Would never recommend this oven, even the look is very stylish. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

This oven stopped working after 7 months, but to make matters worse, Whirlpool warranty service took 12 days to fix the oven. The part was ready in two days but the local service was in no rush to repair.
