The 20-year-old dryer finally went kaput, so we needed a new one asap. Loved the option to sort appliances by desired options and compare features on the website, then order online and get a delivery date right away.
This dryer does its job reasonably (and sometimes surprisingly) quickly, even on the "eco-friendly" setting, which is exactly what I wanted. Sometimes a bulky or thick item will need an extra few minutes after taking out the item and putting the part that was in the center to the outside, which I kind of expect, especially on the medium heat setting. Once the damp part is on the outside, it doesn't take much time at all to finish up.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Jim9462 No more Whirlpool for this Family!
Within 30 days of purchase the unit started making a thumping noise. After three visits from 2 different service tech's. They could only acknowledge the noise and not fix it. Before the last visit customer service told me that if they could not resolve the issue they would replace the unit. Well guess what the issue is not resolved and now they are telling me that they will NOT replace it because I don't qualify for a warranty replacement... the unit is only 3 months old for gods sake!!!! They want to keep tying up my time with 4 hour service tech windows... well guess what... I'm done with Whirlpool!!! From here on out "Life is Good" it's LG for me!!!

The design is strange, the top of a dryer that slants down? Nothing stays on the top, for even a minute just to fold clothes, everything falls off. (I did order via online so I did not see this in person I may have changed my mind due to the top design) I must admit it dries in a flash, haven't gotten my first energy bill but I would imagaine it would fall due to the short amount of time it takes to dry clothes! I am happy with that!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Gregkl So Glad I Got This Model Before They Are Gone
I hemmed and hawed about getting a new dryer since my old Whirlpool was still working even after 22 years. I originally wanted the white one but recently noticed that it was becoming unavailable. To my dismay I began to realize that this model was going out of production at Whirlpool. So I decided to get the Chrome Shadow since it was at least still available and I was worried my old one was on borrowed time. The chrome shadow looks great and with the black faceplate it is quite gorgeous for what that is worth to anyone.
The controls are easy to learn. It sings a little jingle when I turn it on and again when the cycle is finished. The hamper door is solid and opens/closes securely. It is a good sized door opening too. The drum is huge too compared to my 5.9 cu. ft. old dryer. The lint trap is firm and easy to remove to clean.
I have only had this two weeks and it is working fabulously. I dried a large load of towels in 1 hour and 6 minutes using the Heavy Duty sensor cycle...AND THEY WERE DRY AT THE END....no need to do a restart for damp towels. I have used a few of the other cycles over these two weeks and they are all working great. Everything is dried and faster than my old Whirlpool.
It is quiet as a mouse too.
One reason I really wanted this model is because it has a lower front service panel. This will make keeping the parts underneath clean/vacuumed and will help in keeping the vent duct system clean and free of lint build up which can lead to fires if left unattended. Not all whirlpools have this feature. I HOPE THAT WHIRLPOOL CONTINUES TO MAKE MODELS WITH THIS SERVICE PANEL FEATURE. WHIRLPOOL, ARE YOU LISTENING?
Another reason I wanted this is because it has a light control which allows me to turn the light on even during the cycle operations. This is just a geek out thing to me. I like to see things like this working and in action...not all dryers feature this... actually relatively few allow a light on during operation....I hate to admit how much time I have already spent just sitting in front of my dryer in the laundry room watching the clothes go round and round (geek) LOL.
The Home Depot delivery and installation guys did a great job. I was concerned about the new vent hookup but it was done great by the two guys. I am glad to see they used the semi-rigid aluminum type duct (instead of that accordian style fire hazard duct) and they added elbows at the bottom of the dryer and at the top of the wall where the duct goes to the outside to help facilitate the length required and to help keep the machine close to the back wall. Very good experience kudos to Home Deopt installers!
My old Whirlpool gave me 22 years of service and never needed a single repair. NOT ONE. If this one gives me even half of that much time problem-free service I will be more than satisfied once again with my Whirlpool appliance. If you have a high level of interest in this particular model like I did then don't wait. This item is being discontinued don't miss out if you really want this one.

The lint screen does not work. More lint (large percentage) is missed by the screen than is captured...it accumulates in the dryer vent piping. While thr dryer works good, is fairly quiet and drys well, the hazards presented by poor lint capturing makes the machine unaccepteble. I wish I knew before I purchased it.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Melani Have had for a few months now, seems to be working properly
I have had this dryer with the matching washer for about 3.5 months now and I haven't had any issues. The dryer seems to dry the clothes well and in less time than my previous dryer.

We had a 28-yr old Kenmore gas dryer that finally needed to be retired (RIP). We selected this dryer because we had the matching Cabrio washer and it was highly rated in a consumer magazine. It's almost a pleasure drying clothes with this machine. No more groping around in the drum in semi-darkness to find that errant sock. No more rushing down to the dryer before the end of the cycle to pull out the stay-press clothes before it stops tumbling and wrinkles set in. The capacity of the dryer is enormous, it has a window in the door, and it has a light inside. Boy, does that make a difference. It now matches the capacity of the washer. The numerous electronic settings make it easy to dry delicates as well as bath towels. The only minor drawback, as noted in other reviews, is that the top of the dryer is inexplicably not flat, but slopes slightly downward toward the front. So you need to exercise caution if you're used to using the top of the dryer to fold and stack laundry.

The dryer is working great. I do not have the fiberations others reported. Mine is on the concrete floor in the basement. The delivery guys were great in setting it where it needed to go and getting everything ready for use.
