Can the swing of door be changed to the other side?

Asked by: SueT
The doors on this Whirlpool Top Freezer Refrigerator with Exterior Dispenser are not able to be reversed. The handles are molded into the door on this model and with the water line running into the door for the dispenser, it is not possible. Thank you for viewing this Whirlpool home appliance.

What does Monochromatic mean? I'm looking at a Whirlpool range and it is just listed as Stainless Steel, will they match?

Asked by: Larry
Monochromatic Stainless Steel is the same as Stainless Steel. The difference is that the accent pieces (hinge covers, base grille, handles, etc.) and cabinet are finished in a Grey color instead of black. This Grey finish compliments the Stainless Steel really well and gives a great fit and finish. Thank you for viewing this Whirlpool home appliance.

Customer Reviews

Gold 21.2 cu. ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator in Black is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 101.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from more problems than we should have Have had more problems from something that was as highly recommended as it was. Ice maker broke quickly, fixed 1x under warranty and now broken again. Long meat shelf in frig always fell out- we finally removed it and gave up. Water line to outside broken.... and now our 6th sense technology has allowed the freezer to clog and it now leaks into the frig

Rated 5 out of 5 by from When I researched the most energy efficent refrigerators via my utilities company, this was the best that met my needs. It has only been a couple of weeks, but so far I am very pleased with this refrigerator. It is by far the best in this price range with an outside water dispenser.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for older designed kitchens I had a hard time finding a refrigerator that had both ice and water dispensers, that was under 70", and stainless, to fit in my older style kitchen. This was perfect. I was replacing a 25 year old refrigerator, plus an even older "beer" fridge in the basment, with this new one. I am saving over $300 per year in electricity costs with those two old fridges now gone. At first, the meat tray kept falling out, but it was replaced under my warranty, and I have not had any issues with it, since. It would be good if this product had the freezer down below, as bending to see what is in the fridge can be a pain for tall people.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Full-width Pantry Drawer Fails Generally, I like this refrigerator. I like the water dispenser on the outside, I like the sleek, modern look, and I like the door compartments. We are a Whirlpool family; our entire kitchen is filled with their products. However, the designers need to take a look at the full-width pantry drawer. The drawer is huge, but you can't put much in it or it will fall. This has happened several times and we are only storing just meats and cheeses in there, not bricks! Love you, Whirlpool, but you missed the mark on this one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good idea, badly executed The concept of having a water dispenser on the outside on a top-freezer model is what drew me to this refrigerator. However, there are multiple issues. 1) The water is warm, not cooled. Therefore, what you save in electric in not having to open the refrigerator for water, you lose in opening the freezer for ice cubes for it. 2) The storage on the door of the refrigerator is badly thought out. The tilt-n-grab shelf, which they tout as a plus, will only accept items shorter than my very shortest jar of mustard. Forget the ketchup. Also, it's very difficult to get in and out. Apparently you're supposed to use it to store frequently used condiments and be able to plop them right on the table, shelf and all, but both of the above factors make that impossible. I ended up removing it to gain the height for other door shelves. 3) The full-width pull-out drawer for meats and cheeses seems very flimsy, and since it stretches the full width of the refrigerator, practically eliminates the usefulness of the shelf below it, unless you store a lot of very short stuff and don't need anything that migrates to the back. 4) All of the hardware is cheap, brittle plastic. If it lasts a year without something breaking, I'll be very surprised. 5) The door storage in the freezer is practically non-existent. It is so narrow about the widest thing that will fit in it is a pack of hot dogs, and perhaps small pouches of frozen vegetables. This means everything has to be piled into the freezer proper, making it difficult to access things that migrate to the rear. 6) My refrigerator arrived with a faulty circuit board, resulting in the refrigerator being below freezing if the freezer was set to 7 degrees (above where it should be), and if you set it so the refrigerator is at 37 (about right), the freezer is at 23 (VERY warm for a freezer). 7) You will be on hold at least 7-10 minutes before reaching a human being at the Whirlpool customer service center, because they are apparently always experiencing "heavy call volume". I leave it to the reader to speculate why they may always be overwhelmed with customers calling to report issues with their new appliances.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed with the design of this refrigerator This refrigerator's design inludes a plastic meat and cheese drawer that runs the width of the unitunderneath a center shelf. The design of this drawer is inexcusably flimsy and poor. The drawer frequently pops out and falls onto items on the shelf below. It is very difficult to put back, particularly in a narrow galley kitchen like mine. I can't understand why Whirlpool's design engineers allowed a drawer like this in a refrigerator that costs as much as this one did (or any refrigerator, for that matter). I'm just furious about this, and I know it can't be addressed because there's no way to change it out for a different design. I will have to live with this badly designed, low quality aspect of the refrigerator for as long as I have it. I should add that the ice maker has stopped working too -- I am going to give Whirlpool the benefit of the doubt that this can be fixed, but there's no solution to this crummy, flimsy, poorly designed drawer except not to use it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, space-saving refrigerator We purchased this model as a space-saver due to the size of the refrigerator cutout in the cabinetry in our kitchen. It has been a good choice overall. Because of its size, we also have a 2nd refrigerator in the garage for additional chilled storage. Two minor items: The temperature control for the appliance is on the front panel next to the water dispenser. While this makes it simple to operate, the location causes the control to be bumped or accidentally pushed, changing the temperature up and down accidentally. Also, there is a trim piece below the door that constantly pops off due to the door's operation. All the electronics and water piping goes through this trim piece and then into the door, and the door swing causes it to come loose on the door hinge end.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from External Water is great... The only reason the refrigerator is not a 5 star is that the deli draw rails are flimsy & would probably eventually break if i don't lift up slightly on the drawer when opening or closing. The external dispenser is a great feature & unique to this model. The two crisper drawers provide a tight seal for fruits & vegetables. One of the shelves is hinged & can be slid back to accommodate tall bottles. The door has plenty of space for a gallon of milk, salad dressings, condiments, butter, eggs etc. The freezer & refrigerator are a perfect temperature at the recommended setting. The ice remains in the bucket instead of overflowing into the freezer area as occurs with some other manufacturers. I also like the fact that the freezer shelves are glass instead of wire. I can't speak of long term reliability, as I only have had the refrigerator for a month, but my initial feeling is that I have made a very good purchase.
