Customer Questions & Answers

How do I get the left door to shut easily like the right one? Is the plastic 'stop' on the hinge removable to correct this problem?

Why are the doors designed this way?
Asked by: Rocky
The plastic stop is used to create a full seal when the doors are closed so it wouldn't be advisable to remove this piece but it actually closes just as clean as the right door after a little while... We don't notice an inconvenience having it there. Before purchasing it, I wondered if the doors would need to be shut in order (left first - then right). It's built so you can open/close either door with ease.

A lot of the negative reviews mention a noisy compressor that never stops running. Has this been fixed?

I found mention of an upgrade kit that fixes the initial engineering problems (noise, icemaker problem, freezing, etc.). If I order now, will I get a model that has been fixed, or will I be responsible for the upgrade kit? Thank you for your help.
Asked by: Sean
Well. We just had our frig delivered last week 3/18/2015. It is making a loud humming/whistling noise constantly. I have called the helpline for a repair/maintenance and they have scheduled a visit. I have owned many refrigerators and none have ever made this much noise. I will returning this product if they cannot quiet down the operation.

I am interested in this refrigerator, but the reviews online have not been positive. What is the problem with leaking?

Asked by: scarleto1
According to the repairman who was here today to tell me that my 20 MONTH OLD Whirlpool refrigerator had a shot condenser, the condenser went because of " leaking" from somewhere! RUN! Find another brand! I was told he sees this in a lot of the new Whirlpool appliances! NOT the whirlpool we grew up with! Whirlpool CS told me given "IT's AGE" they can't help me!!! 20 months, REALLY?!

can the freezer hold turkies

The bottom freezer looks flimsy. Can it hold a family size thanksgiving turkey? or will the drawer come out?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes. But the freezer has stopped working for the second time and is too expensive to fix. Less than 2 years and it is junk.

Customer Reviews

Gold 26.8 cu. ft. French Door Refrigerator in Black Ice is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 116.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! We previously owned a Whirlpool side by side (which last 10 years) so we decided to stay with the brand. This fridge is very large inside and easily adjustable to make space for tall items. The ice maker is compacted up into the ceiling of the fridge and doesn't take away from fridge space. The drawer has an adjustable temperature on it, so we use it for meats and it keeps them just above freezing, which makes them last longer. Also protects non-meats from leaky packages. The handles are made of metal, not plastic and securely fasten to the doors, therefore they never come off as I have read with all White plastic version. We love it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do NOT Buy this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the worst appliance I have ever owned! Had the repairman out over 5 times in the first year and they still could not fix the water leaking inside the fridge, coming from the ice maker. It is now 14 months old and the fridge today started sounding like a bulldozer in my kitchen! The noise is truly unbearable. It was loud before but we put up with it. Now it appears that something has broken as it is extremely loud. Talking with Whirlpool service they are expecting me to pay because it is 2 months out of warranty. I should have taken the advice of some folks on here that said not to buy this piece of junk. Don't make the same mistake as me!!! Get a Samsung or GE...anything but Whirlpool!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst purchase of my life The first 4 months with this fridge were beautiful. I loved everything about, the capacity, the measured water fill system, the fridge is beautiful. ....Its a beautiful piece of junk. It started with ice accumulating around the ice maker, they fixed that but then one door wouldn't close all the way, they put putty in that. After that, my fridge was not cold any more. I just had a service guy here yesterday fixing that problem and the problem has no been fixed. I now just want a new fridge. I'm tired. This is an expensive headache. To make matter worse, although we bought that expensive Home Depot 5 year warranty, Home Depot said they cant do much within the first year, we must let Whirlpool deal with it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Appliance life expectancy less than 20 months!! NEVER, EVER AGAIN !!! Evidently Whirlpool thinks that less than 20 months of use is ACCEPTABLE for this appliance! Plugged it in in April 2013, was told today Jan. 21,2015, condenser is shot, will cost $1000 to fix and I should just buy a new one because he has seen this problem often in Whirlpool refrigerators! This IS NOT the Whirlpool we grew up with! Was told by Whirlpool "given its AGE there's nothing they can do to help" REALLY?? And to think I purchased the stove, dishwasher AND microwave all from the same line! I did all the research, carefully read all these customer reviews and chose to ignore the few who were dissatisfied...BIG mistake! I BEG you, look elsewhere or buy a 10 YEAR protection plan, if they have one, because you're going to need it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product plenty of room Have had it two weeks and love it. There is plenty of room in both refrigerator anf freezer compartments. Had to adjust shelving a couple of times as we buy gallon size teas and juices but it all fits with extra room. Have a small problem with water dripping randomly from dispenser and ice/water buildup dripping along the inside door from the ice maker. Tried flushing the line and adjusting the temp but it is still doing it so I will call customer service.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Same problem as others After 8 months we are running into the same problem as others “the ice accumulating behind the ice maker” the service guy said that is a manufacturing defect but after he replaced all the parts in the upper part of the unit the ice accumulating seems fixed but now I have more problem before the refrigerator not cooling sometime, NOSIE (this is a very annoying in a quiet house sound like a train running in your kitchen), moister around the door etc.. Whirlpool support and the local service guy is not helping they all said this is normal but come on my 20 years old refrigerator run quiet than this. BUYER BEWARES.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from There are no regrets at all!! I was looking to replace my old refrigerator with a stylish and efficient one - but, most of all quiet. And I am happy that I select this one. I saw reviews online that it was too noisy, but that is not true - at least not with mine. I really enjoy the water dispense feature, which allow me to do something else while filling up a glass of water.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Refridgeration broke at 72 days After 72 days my fridge died. Whirlpool sent a repair person out. As he went through his procedure the fridge turned back on. The repair person was unsure as to why it came back on, contacted WP, they stated they were also unsure but believe that it could be the "digital board." They claimed to order a new part and have it "expedited" and sent with in 5-7 days. When the sixth day came, I was not contacted about the part. I called the repair place and they said they did not order it because WP said they would order it. Now I am told to wait again. I have two babies in the house. My neighbors are keeping my food for me because this current fridge is slightly cooled. When I requested to get a new fridge, because it has only been 72 days, WP said, No! And I have to wait till this happens 3x total before they will replace it with a new fridge. I explained I can understand the warranty replacement if I have had the fridge for over a year but not 72 days. And... they still do not know if this will completely fix the issue. There is a social acceptance to customer service. If I was requesting a new fridge after a year of having this one, then I would look like a bad customer. But at 72 days???
