Customer Questions & Answers

What about when it rains hard. Does water leak in?

Asked by: Buddy
Hello, Lomanco Customer Support here. No! When Lomanco Whirlybird's are properly installed with a balanced system of intake and exhaust, they will not allow any weather infiltration. Here's why... The turbine has twenty-one (21) air-foil curved vanes with rolled edges to deflect water. The rolled edges are designed to force the water to run down the vanes & not into the attic. Air-foil means a body designed to provide a desired reaction force when in motion relative to the surrounding area. To summarize, the turbine should be turning at all times when there is outside air movement. The centrifugal force of the turbine also prevents leakage. Centrifugal force is the force that tends to impel a thing or parts of a thing, such as rain, outward from a center of rotation, such as the bearing/shaft assembly in the turbine. It is important that the unit be sealed with roofing cement around all seams, nails, and under the flashing. The part of the flashing that is facing the roof peak should be installed underneath the shingles and the bottom part should be overlapping the shingles. Sealing in this manner prevents water from entering the attic under the flashing. Let us know if you have any questions - 800-643-5596.

, can they be locked to prevent spinning in Winter

We live in Arizona.. Our humidity is extremely low in the winter. How does it lock so it doesn't remove winters warming effect in the attic during cold winters?

Sealed Bearings ?

Should be on your description. Screws included? Thanks
Asked by: Pic
Hi! It's customer support from Lomanco here. The Whirlybird's bearings permanently seal in lubricant to keep dirt and moisture out. These upper and lower ball bearings are the heart of the turbine and ensure long life and no maintenance.

can this type vent be installed on a slanted roof?

Asked by: Tom
Hi Tom, Mary from Lomanco here. The Whirlybird is intended to be installed on a pitched roof. If your referring to a pitched roof as a slanted roof, then yes. It can also be adapted to work on a flat roof with some modifications, but the most common application is a pitched / slanted roof. Give us a call if you have any additional questions - 800.643.5596.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fine Product Ventilation powered by the wind. Mine is on a storage shed. Just follow the included instructions for installation. I like the black color as the black roofing tar - I tarred the joints outside the vent - doesn't show. Quiet and efficient. Besides venting the shed itself, the WhirlyBird also vents the flooded deep-cycle battery of the solar system for lighting the shed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes a difference! It definitely makes a big difference in the temperature of my attic, and therefore my house (I don't have much attic insulation). I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cooling effect I already have three on my house. They really cool my house. The difference is very significant. I decided to put two in my garage because it gets really hot and it does not have any venting. So it gets too humid inside. I expect it will keep the garage cooler and dryer. For what it does, it is a great money saver.
