I ordered this digital food thermometer after my current thermometer shorted-out and failed after only five uses. From this thermometer's on-line ad it appeared to have a more heavier gauge probe and connecting wire than my current one. Upon arrival, I inserted the AAA battery that came with it and it immediately failed after five minutes of use. A few weeks later, I inserted a new AAA battery, re-read the owner's directions a few times, then per the instructions inserted the probe into a turkey breast roast we were about to cook. Then made the appropriate inputs to the thermometer per the instructions. The thermometer's alarm started to go off immediately. I re-read the instructions several times, but the alarm would continuously sound. After 45 minutes I was about to conclude the thermometer was defective. However, I continued to study the situation and eventually discovered the owner's instructions left out one major point. You must input the temperature setting of the roaster or oven for the thermometer to work correctly. Even though I was not interested in monitoring the oven temperature, or duration of cooking, but only the internal temperature of the item being cooked the oven temperature must be inputted for the digital thermometer to work correctly. In the end, the turkey roast turned out to be the best one we have ever made. My wife and I like the heavy gauge of the connecting wire and probe. The downside is when inputting the oven temperature and the desired finish temperature of the item being cooked to the digital thermometer there is no reverse button to back up the temperature setting. If you accidently pass by your desired temperature setting, then you must fast forward through the entire temperature range until the unit recycles from the start. Then, as the thermometer approaches your desired temperature setting you must slow down so not pass the correct temperature. See attach photographs.
