Answer:
The actual inside dimension of the large end of the extension is 3.25-inches by 4.50-inches. So, you could attach your 3x3 downspout to three sides of the extension,

It sounds like you have a newer home, where I have seen the downspouts running below grade and drain out to the front curb area of the street? Read Less

For correct water flow, you want the downspout going INTO this downspout extension. So, in your case, you'd fasten this downspout extension to the OUTSIDE of your 3x4 downspout. If this is confusing and you can visit a HD store, obtain a 3x4 downspout and this downspout extension. Once you see them side by side you'll know if this is what you need. White Downspout Extension is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 517.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Useful and easy-to-install This downspout extension is vinyl. It won’t corrode as would a galvanized downspout, and it won’t permanently bend, as would aluminum. It’s 27 inches long, and can be stretched to 53 inches. It can be used simply to extend a downspout by its length. Or it can be bent — its corrugated section allows you to put a semi-permanent bend into it, so that the downspout water is diverted away from the foundation, a good idea if you have water coming into your basement, or even if you don’t, for water can freeze and damage your foundation. You can bury it so that you won’t trip on it. You can even put two or three bends into the corrugated section, as in the photo below. The ends are different sizes to fit over various downspouts. The large end is 4” x 3”, and the small end is 3½” x 2”. The vinyl is paintable — we use solid stain, so you can match your downspout color, and match the ground color if you wish. This is a useful and easy-to-install downspout extender.

I needed to link three of these together and the system failed to perform even after making a trip back to the store for advice which I did not get-no one knew the answer. I cobbled together a solution on my own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great quality downspout These downspouts are made out of good quality, flexible plastic material. They expand by just pulling them. They are easy to maneuver in the shape or path that you need them. They do a great job of channeling the rain where you want it. They easily attach to your existing gutter down spout and they stay on with no problem. I have on connected to the down spout inf ront of my house to channel the rain down the driveway so it doesn't flood the flowerbed and I have another in the back channeling the rain to my rain barrel. They tend to last 3-4 years depending on where you have them and if there is any vegetation that could grow into it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to install a shallow trench is all one needs to dig and it is installed The extension was very easy to work with. I dug a shallow trench where I wanted to bury the extension, connected it to the aluminum downspout on the side of the house. I then laid the extension in the trench and connected it to downspout outlet and then shoveled the dirt back into place. The downspouts work very well. I no longer have to disconnect any downspouts around the house when I'm going to mow. I also installed mesh inserts in the eaves trough outlet to prevent the downspout from becoming clogged.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not the same as shown in the ad :( The item shown in the online ad is what they USED to sell...and that actually WAS a great product. What is actually in the store is a different design that makes it absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to interconnect multiple spouts. When you follow the directions on the spout and the sticker, cutting off the squared area and try to insert one rounded end into the other, you can't. Both rounded ends are exactly the same diameter, which makes it impossible to feed one end into the other...maybe the Hulk can do it, but no normal person can. the old design was easy to connect...I really wish they'd bring back the old one...if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Last a Long Time I bought these downspout extensions for the first time several years ago to keep the water away from the house when it rains. After several years one started to get a little crack in it so I replaced both green ones with stone colored ones. They are easy to install, just fit them on your downspouts, reasonably priced and last for years even though they are on top of the ground and not underneath the ground. I am very pleased with them and would purchase again in a few years if needed.

Product is very flexible ...easily attached to down spouts even in difficult positions. The openings on either end are a perfect size.. however I would have preferred .. 1. A larger diameter tubing .. maybe an inch larger. 2. If one end had the 'down spout' opening & the other end has a round 'splice-able' opening.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE. These are sold as if they are extensions and can be connected back to back. Well they can't! They weren't designed to be connected to one another and cannot be used for extending anything. They are just one size extensions and you better only need one because they won't work as anything else. HORRIBLE DESIGN!
