Is this a hard wired thermostat? I see it runs on batteries. Is that just for backup? I am looking for a hard wired therostat with a battery backup.

Answer:
No. This thermostat (and to my knowledge almost all) is designed to cycle until the target temperature is reached and then turn off the machinery. Even programmable thermostats that allow you to set multiple temperature settings in any given period still cycle your machinery on and off based on the target temperature.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 30 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bought two of these and will be returning both. Thermometer section response to temperature change way too slow. It looks like the it was programmed to not change by more than 1 degree per minute or more. The lag between actual temperature and its proper display is unacceptable. October 25, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good simple environmental control I ordered this thermostat because of its simplicity. But I had 1 problem. The backup battery compartment uses 2 AA batteries. the slot for the batteries is too small and cover would not sit correctly so I left the batteries out. The unit makes a solid clicking sound when turning on AC and vent fan/blowers So places I'd recommend this is for RV's, greenhouses basements, moble homes, workshop and small business. Installation was easy with existing wires to AC and natural gas heat. April 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect and affordable The thermostat was very easy to install. The instructions were clear and understandable. My home has two zones and I needed another white-Rodgers to compliment the one I have already. Even though it is non-programmable, it is exactly what I needed. I love it. February 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Basic Thermostat For a basic, non-programmable thermostat, this is a great option. Installation is very easy. Just use the old connections from your current thermostat. Mine only had 2 wires connected and no C wire, so I had to use batteries to power the display. Once powered up, it controlled my natural gas furnace with no issue. This is a great option for my basement zone as I don't typically use the heat down there. I would recommend to anyone looking for a basic thermostat at a great value. November 11, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Thermostat Quick delivery to my local store. Easy installation July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Working Well I had an old White-Rodgers thermostat that finally went bad after almost 20 years! Even though I had to wait (but less than a week) to get this one I chose another White-Rodgers unit for a number of reasons. First, I have faith in the brand since the old one lasted so long, second the new unit was very similar in size so mounting it was very easy (I was even able to use one of the existing wall anchors) and third, because the wiring pins, although configured differently, were labeled exactly the same as the old one. Besides having three wires attached to terminals "W", "G" and "Y", he old thermostat also had terminals labeled "RH" and "RC" with a jumper wire between the two. The new unit not only had the same terminals, the jumper was actually factory installed, no confusion where to put the wires.I had purchased the competitor's model at the store but returned it because the wiring instructions were just too confusing. Screw up the wiring on the thermostat and you can screw up the entire system! Even though it's been running only a short time I'm looking forward to many years of service from this thermostat. My only gripe is with Home Depot's description of the display! It says that it is back lit but it is not. The old one was not back lit either so no biggie. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simple Not Complicated Thermostat I find this digital non-programmable thermostat for heat and cooling simple and not complicated at all to use. This thermostat took under five minutes to install. It gives an accurate reading so no more guessing if its off a degree or two. If your home a lot and don't go away on vacation or work trips then this non-programmable thermostat is for you. I like the simplicity of it, its easy to read numbers and its easy to use. November 18, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really Good Deal Good price, easy installation. Only bad thing is that it doesn't have a light to illuminate the numbers on the face. Sometimes I want to see the temp. in the room and have to turn the hall light on for that. No big deal. Unit works good. July 12, 2016
