Wow. I've been missing out. We had a decent digital thermostat, but this one is definitely a step up! Love the touchscreen feature and large backlit display. Nice choice of colors for faceplates to match your décor. Simple instructions for easy install, took about 15 minutes. Guided set-up for programming the 7 day schedule, that took about 20 minutes. I really like that it has a "Favorites" setting and even a "Vacation" setting! We have this thermostat downstairs in our main living area. The upstairs thermostat will need to be upgraded soon too! Highly recommend this item!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by JohnS Works with heat pumps
The UP400 thermostat is a nice, large touch-screen thermostat with simple controls. In my case, it replaced a non-touch-screen thermostat on a single-stage heat pump system. It was easy to install and easy to program. It has a 7-day feature which allows you to have a separate program for each day of the week. This is very important as many people these days, do not have a fixed schedule each day.
The programming also allowed me to make changes across the whole week, for those that do have a similar schedule all week long.
You can even change the color of the frame (a paper insert) to match 5 colors of your interior. (White, Silver, green, yellow, beige).
Because mine was a heat pump, the wiring instructions were confusing. Depending on whether you have a Rheem heat pump or some other brand, you may have different color wires that need connecting. (Technically, Rheem and other brands switch the way their reversing valves work.) So it took me some online research to determine the correct way to wire my Rheem heat pump. I wish the instructions were a little more clear on that point.
I especially like the 3-year warranty, the large numerical display, and the one-touch pre-programmed temperature changes (home, sleep, away holds).
You will need 2 AA batteries.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by PEANUT INNOVATIVE AND EASY TO READ THERMOSTAT
I was a little unsure whether to pick this thermostat from White Rodgers because I have not heard of this brand before. I can now say that this thermostat was not only easy to install but also looks nice and functions flawlessly. The large easy to read touch screen display lets you see temp in room without having to walk up to thermostat. The original faceplate can be removed and replaced with a clear faceplate with either a beige, silver, light yellow or mint green colored insert allowing it to blend into different wall colors. This thermostat works with virtually any heating/ cooling system, saves you on your energy costs and includes several very useful features that you can program it to do. I installed mine in my computer room with the beige insert to blend into the wall. It is programmed to lower temp during the day and go back up to higher temp in late afternoon.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by BobO Controls 2 Separate (Heat & AC) Units! - Great Touch Screen - Simple to program
We have a forced hot water -oil furnace system for heat (2 wires) and an after market central air AC unit (3 wires) and this unit will run both of them on program or manually. Just remove the jumper between RC and RH and line up the wires accordingly and you're done.
Programming this unit was by far the easiest ever. They preset logical times and temps for both heat and cool so you just have to nudge it up or down and your done. Also, the copy/paste feature is great because you only have to press the button once for the first days' settings to be copied for all week, literally 2 seconds to program the whole week after the first day.
I found that installation was easy but unlike the model down from this one (UP300), they did not provide the mini screw driver, but it wasn't a real issue - just had to go dig one out. The battery compartment was a bit of a problem because the batteries would not stay in place, they would pop out when placing the unit up to the wall to plug into the base plate. I had to tape them in place. Strange design, maybe it was the cheapo batteries (a little smaller in diameter? I doubt it).
The touch screen is large and very easy to read and is very sensitive, responds well to the touch. Our last touch screen thermostat was dark and needed a stylus which still didn't work sometimes. This unit is way better and costs less.
The face plate has 4 interchangeable color inserts if you choose to use them, otherwise it's white.
This is a really good thermostat and I recommend this because it works very well, is easy to program and is priced right.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Keith SIMPLE OR COMPLEX...YOU CHOOSE
We were concerned about the rise in our energy bill...concerned that it is a trend that won't reverse anytime soon. We decided to get a better handle on our heating and cooling costs by going programmable. This thermostat was the answer. It has all of the features we wanted and none of the features we didn't.
The touchscreen is large enough to see easily, even with my eyes. It has 7-day programming that is quite easy to set up. It comes preprogrammed with a scenario that doesn't work for our family, but could work for some and if that's the case you don't have to do any programming...just turn it on. If, like us, you need to make changes, there are built-in features to make that easier. For instance, if you want every day to be the same, there is a cut and paste feature for that. Another handy feature locks your settings so that no one can change them, intentionally or accidentally.
The wiring is fairly straight forward. They have included adhesive labels to mark your existing wires as you remove them from the old one. There is also a chart to ensure you hook the right wire to the right terminal on the new one.
We replaced our old Honeywell mercury dial thermo with this one. The only thing I feel will be a downside is having to change the batteries. With the old ones you never had to worry about it. In the instructions manual, it says in bold letters..."Your house could freeze or overheat when batteries get too low. Batteries must be changed when the low battery symbol appears on the screen". That makes me a little bit nervous, but it has another feature, when the batteries get low it will automatically lower or raise the temperature 10 degrees to warn you.
This thermostat has many more features that you can choose to use or not. Like the old ones, you can set the blower to "auto" or "continuous". One I think I might like is the maintenance reminders...to change your filter(s). You can also over-ride the programming temporarily if need, without have to redo the settings afterward. There are a number of additional optional features that may be helpful. I like simple so I probably won't use all of them but that's another plus for this thermo, you can do simple or varying degrees of complex.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Kathleen Easy and Intuitive
This is a great thermostat, and the ability to program 7 days really works well with my unconventional work schedule. The touch screen display is highly intuitive, easy to operate even in the dark because the screen lights up on touch.
The product was easy to install; I installed it in under 5 minutes. You will need a flat head screwdriver. The product comes with labels with which to label the wires, which is a nice feature should I ever have to remove the thermostat to clean or paint, then reinstall it.
I appreciated the customizable faceplate; it comes with four color inserts and a translucent faceplate, in addition to the default white faceplate (if you're crafty enough, I imagine you could insert any pattern you choose). I ended up choosing the default white faceplate due to the thermostat's proximity to a light switch, which is also white.
So far I am very satisfied with the thermostat; heat goes up and down as scheduled, and it appears to keep time accurately. If you want an easy to use, accurate, and intuitive thermostat, I recommend this one.
The thermostat also has an option to switch to a non-programmable mode. What this means is you pre-program three temperatures for "home," "away," and "sleep." This is useful for weeks which might not be as routine as normal, in which case you would not need to re-program the days of week settings, instead you can switch it to non-programmable mode and turn the heat up/down as you need it. I plan on using this the next time I'm home from work for a few holiday days off.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by hpiguy Works great, Easy Install, Brightly lit screen, Tons on Menu Options
Everyone is looking to save on energy costs these days and this UP400 thermostat with backlit screen will help you do just that.
This is a universal fit thermostat so it will work with almost any type of furnace on the market. Even heat pumps and multi-stage units.
Installation is very simple. You will only need a phillips screwdriver to do it. You attach the base plate to the wall, and attach your wires from the old thermostat following the diagram and labels provided. Install takes all of 15 minutes. You will need two AA batteries to power the unit.
To match the unit to your decor, it has four colored face plates and a clear cover. You can also leave it with the white faceplate it is shipped with.
Programming is very intuitive. I had most of this set up before even reading the manual. It's that easy. The touch screen responds nicely and the backlight is nice and bright, but not blinding.
You have dozens of options and menus to set up your particular heating system to your exact desires.
You even have the options of daily, weekly, weekend and favorite temp settings whether you are home, away or asleep. The touch screen will walk you through each step.
At any time you want you can override the programmed settings for custom control, and then quickly go back to the programmed settings by pressing the button to resume your schedule.
Temp control is quite spot on. It allows the temp to swing just over a degree over or under before turning on. It will keep your home at one exact temp at all times.
Overall this is a great thermostat that works well with nearly any furnace on the market. I'd recommend it to any home owner.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Steve Love the COPY button
I replaced a non-programmable digital thermostat with this White Rodgers model UP400 seven day programmable unit. It never fails, once I'm snuggled up in bed I realize I forgot to lower the temperature. Not a problem any longer.
My installation couldn't have been easier. I don't have central air and my gas fired furnace is controlled with two wires - a red and a white. The instruction booklet is very easy to follow and well illustrated. After shutting off the power to the thermostat I was pleased to find that the screw holes from my old unit lined up perfectly with the base plate on the UP400 so no holes to drill. I fastened the plate to the wall, connected the white wire to "W" and the red wire to "RC", leaving the factory installed jumper wire in place. Next, and the booklet doesn't mention this, after removing the cardboard insert in the battery tray I snapped in two fresh "AA" alkaline batteries (not supplied). Push fit the cover in place and you're done.
Before restoring power you're asked ten easy "Option" questions. Now restore power and set the time and date. The unit ships preprogrammed for seven days but their program didn't work for my schedule. I love this - this thing has a COPY button. Set your schedule for Monday, press the COPY button, select which days to copy to and presto, its done. Next, do the same thing for the weekend. Programming complete. You can also set a temperature and press a HOLD button to bypass he program.
There are many additional features which I'll probably never use but they're there if I need them. White Rodgers offers a ONE YEAR limited warranty on this model.
