We haven't yet had enough heat to put this unit to the test, but so far it seems well constructed, for the most part. The window attachment is indeed plastic, but it seems sturdier to me than others have reported and it fits either of the windows shown in my photo. I will invest in some insulated weather stripping for the window, however. I agree that the addition of vertical adjustment on the vent of this unit would make sense. It's a curious shortcoming, and I'm wondering if I'll need to place the unit on some pedestal or otherwise direct the airflow upwards to balance the room's air temperature.

Bought this air conditioner to replace a portable LG air conditioner that died after only three seasons (last time I buy an LG product). Looks solid, easy to install and cools the room nicely. But I've only had it a month. I'll be in a better position to rate it a few years from now.

I've had this Whynter unit for almost three weeks and I couldn't be happier with its performance. I have a small (650 SF) condo and this unit in conjunction with a strategically placed tower fan has been able to cool down my whole apartment to a comfortable temperature, even during the humid 90 degree days we've been having lately. I've been running the unit in "cool" mode and haven't had to drain it yet - it is definitely living up to its self-evaporating claims.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Denis I did a lot of research to find the right one and I found it.
We ordered it at the Home Depot store, and delivered there. The whole process took less than a week and was very convenient. Right after we received it we had a 104 degree day. It kept our kitchen, dinning room and living room at 79 degrees all day on low setting. Since then I have noted that it keeps the inside of the rooms at a fairly consistant 25 degrees cooler than the outside. It is as loud as I expected and the dishwasher is louder. It was very easy to set up, and looks fine where it is.

This is the 2nd Whnyter Aircon I bought and it works well, a 12000 BTU and it cools a 440 sq ft dining room/living room with enough to spare. We turn it to 74 degrees and it's very comfy - can crank it for sure if we want it cooler. One thing - the description online says "no drain hose connection" but it has one for sure. Connect a standard garden hose width (then cut lengh to size) to a small bucket or suitable container as it does drain water from the condensation (we're in San Francisco Bay Area/Peninsula). Funny cuz the 10K btu unit in the bedroom does not drain any water at all. Sound is standard for any portable unit of this type.
