Customer Reviews

14000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with 3M Filter is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from So-So Performance I bought 2 of these units a few years ago and have used them during the summers for cooling and winters for dehumidification purposes inside a 1,400 SF house. I've found that the 100-115°F days are challenging for these units. You must run them continually to have satisfactory cooling effect. The lowest temp the unit in my bedroom was able to produce was about 75°F during the hot, humid daytime while I sleep (nightshift worker). It is comfy in my room but I must always keep the door closed for good cooling results. The 3M filter is a joke! It's a piece of green material that isn't cut to fit (much smaller) and somehow seal around the edges of the normal screen framed filter. Plus, the normal screen filter should snap in place with 4 tabs but they break very easily. So, I found that just loosely placing the screen in the cover works okay. The water outlet/drain is an inch from the floor. WTF!? So, I removed the casters and bought a small dolly to set the unit on which raised it about 4-5" above the floor so I could connect a drain hose for continual drainage. The dual hose method needed modifications as well. The left hose is the actual very hot exhaust which needed to be wrapped in aluminum clad duct insulation and affixed with aluminum duct tape. This worked perfectly. The other hose seemingly does nothing but draw in all the dirt and bugs which are deposited in the bottom of the unit and which partially clog the fins on the internal heat exchanger. Every year the rear cover must be removed and the inside cleaned by brushing and vacuuming away all debri. The build is otherwise sturdy and after owning several other brands such as Delongi and LG (the worst ever), these Whynter branded units are still running quite well after 4 years....

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well - does the job This unit is attractive (relative to others), blends into our room. It cools a 500 square foot room (which has over 11 foot ceilings) fairly well. Not that noisy and doesn't need to be emptied very often, maybe once a day if running all day. Emptying it is a bit awkward since it needs to be tipped back, but it's doable. The set-up was fairly easy but wish they had longer insert panels to fit our 42 inch windows.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay Purchase If you are looking for mainly for the AC feature this is a good product. It cools well and quickly. It's very loud when it kicks on so I can't sleep with it on, because it wakes me up every 15 minutes. The tubes are very large, yet short so there it can't be moved far from the window. As other reviews mentioned, when you use the dehumidifier, it only works for an hour or less before it has to be drained- it does not hold much- and it is difficult to drain as the drain is about two inches from the ground, so finding a container to get in in is difficult. This product is fine, but I would have purchased a less expensive one without a dehumidifier because that feature is pointless on this model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Performs as Advertised I have had the unit about two weeks during what has been an extremely hot summer. Installation went well with no problems. I have in installed in my woodworking shop (read: garage of 425 sqft +/-). I set it to come on about 4 hours before I plan to be in the shop and it is set on 78F. It keeps the shop comfortable enough to work in for extended periods. It has been just what I needed so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fullfilled all my expectations for the cooling of my office I needed the help of a contractor friend of mine to help me install the window adapter kit since my office is on the fourth floor corner of building. Also required downward facing backdraft preventing vent so nothing can crawl back into unit. Customer service hasn`t been required up to this point and the shipping was excellent. Excellent cooling capacity especially since all windows of my office face the sun directly from sunrise to sunset. The noise level is manageable. Remote control works perfectly. If cooling is your primary concern I highly recomend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding A/C This Whynter is a great looking a/c that fits the decor in our office that inexplicably has no central HVAC. Nice digital control panel. Maybe it's just in my head, but the air does feel a lot fresher with the 3M filter in place. I love the fact that it comes with premium filtration and I don't need a separate air purifier. We use it mostly in a 470+ square ft area and have been most pleased with the ambient temperature even in the afternoons. We will likely get a 2 or 3 more units for the rest of the office. Gladly recommend this unit.
