Answer:
The ice maker is a stand alone ice maker....it is self contained and requires a source of electricity and a water source
It's not stand alone in the sense of pouring water in it and making it mobile and taking it with you

No, the ice maker does not have a built in filter but you can buy one for under $20 and it is super easy to install. I had the ice maker and filter installed in under 30 minutes.

Answer:
there is no replaceable filter in this ice maker. If you want the ice to be made from filtered water, the water source would need to be filtered before going into the unit.

This a fan cooled unit, how noisy is it.
Had one just like this in a 2011 vintage and it could easily be heard running when you were 15 feet away from it!

Hope they have improved.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great little ice maker Easy hook up. Poor instructions. Works well, but tends to build some frost up at the top center inside. Does great making ice. August 16, 2016

Only took a few Hours to fill up the Bin.Nice and quiet operation, after a few batches you wont hear the Ice drop anymore.I suggest buying an Ice maker connector Kit just in case.Glad i did. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Work fine for a while This unit worked fine for a while, then thermostat stopped working and it was herd to find the part. If anyone who needs parts for this unit go to Ambient stores Unit UIM155. July 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simple. This ice maker worked great right out of the box. Simple hookup, started making ice right away! Put it on porch for outside entertaining. Love it. July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Trying to figure out the noise issue I read the reviews about noise issues before buying and it looked like the noise was more of an issue with the product being installed on a level rather than the ice maker itself being noisy. I have tried a few different arrangements and still find this machine to be noisier than the jillion year-old undercounter Nu-Line we had. Haven't given up on it yet--it makes nice cubes and it is attractive and seems to do exactly what it is supposed to do. But when the compressor is running, you know it. Otherwise it's great. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good ice machine I purchased this to replace a counter top ice machine for my office that recently bit the dust. This unit fits on top of my counter, with a couple of inches to spare on the top to the cabinets above. I had a plumber install only because its required in an office building, but, it was easy to install; just hooked up to the existing water line. I have an office of 100 people, and this satisfies the demand. I've only had this unit for about a month now, so far, no complaints...runs seamlessly, and is nice looking. I also purchased the extended warranty, just to make life easier down the road. April 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works great for it's size Unit installed easy and began making plenty of "D" shaped ice cubes. Basically a refrigerator style ice maker, I would recommend this unit for light to medium use. It takes about a day to fill but its works great as a supplement maker for small 20-25 person parties. The unit is not a full size under-counter appliance (does not go from floor to countertop) but I installed a cabinet filler the finish look was fine. The only con is that it is not frost free. It appears I may have to defrost it about every 60-90 days depending on usage. May 5, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Beware Purchased with extra warranty protection- ice maker quit just short of 2 years. Called warranty company and they said they would send an e-card & we would receive it in a couple of weeks. Three weeks later we called them( this is a third party vendor and not Home Depot), and they said we needed to fax them our purchase receipt and warranty - we did- no answer. We called again & told us we had to donate the old ice machine to a local charity and fax them the receipt. Later we called again and told them charities do not want appliances that do not work. Were told then we needed to cut the electrical in half , take and send them a picture. We did this and also got Home Depot involved (who were great- if not for HD we would still be getting the run around). 5 weeks and lots of calls to get the warranty honored.. IF you purchase be sure to SAVE your paper work or they will not honor your warranty. This warranty Company is not Home Depot Quality May 21, 2016
