Answer:
You can hear it, but it's not going to interrupt conversation or anything like that. I have it in between two cabinets and you can still hear it when compressor runs. It's far quieter than a dishwasher.

Answer:
It is very loud. No, cabinets don't make it better. Also, it broke within 9 months. Still under warranty but customer service is ridiculous. Don't buy this brand.

Display blinks when compressor is attempting to adjust temperature to setting. try unplugging the unit for at least 3 minutes to restart it It is normal for the display to flash until the set temperature is reached.
make sure that there are no bottles blocking the fans inside of the cabinet so that the unit can properly circulate the air inside.

make sure that there are no bottles blocking the fans inside of the cabinet so that the unit can properly circulate the air inside.
set the unit to the lowest temperature after resetting the unit should be cooling. If not, check to make sure that the compressor fan is running, that the compressor is vibrating slightly with a low hum (please see attached picture) and that the front grille is not blocked.
If the compressor is not coming on but the compressor fan is working, listen to the compressor if you hear a faint clicking sound. If so, the compressor starter may need to be replaced. Read Less

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 62 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Wine Cooler Unit is pretty much as expected. Fan short-cycles about every 20 seconds, which seems excessive. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great look! Great look and good quality. Easy to install. I store red and white wines . May 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Classy wine storage unit Got this put in on the side of our island counter. It looks really nice in there. It operates very softly and is more silent than our fridge. I haven't had a chance to completely fill it up but seems to to be fairly big inside and does well cooling everything (including beer). I would buy it again and also recommend it. April 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Wine Fridge I am extremely pleased with my new wine fridge. It fit perfectly in my space and does a great job keeping my wine at the correct temperature. Good value. May 3, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DO NOT PURCHASE Purchased this wine refrigerator and less than 10 months old it went out. After paying $600.00, it will cost $300.00 to ship back to company. I would not buy from this company again. Both Home Depot and Whytner was extremely difficult to work with. Needless to say, I now have a wine fridge that is useless. April 18, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by First wine fridge Bought this wine fridge for a little kitchen area I put in my basement rec room. One problem is the thing runs constantly. The area is heated with a wood stove so sometimes it's a little chilly down there when the stove is not on. The manual says the problem could be that room is too cold. But the problem persists even when the stove is running. Also it sits on a tile floor that is on the concrete so the floor is always on the cold side. Also it's rated as a 33 bottle fridge but that must be 33 really small bottles. With normal sized wine bottles it's probably more like 20-25. It does look good and seem to be built well. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Works ok - but doesn't hold amount of bottes advertised I have had the cooler about a month. It was easy to install however hard (or impossible) to fit all the bottles in as advertised. Bottles don't fit between shelves so I had to remove several shelves. Also, the front decorative metal trim pieces on most shelves came off so I had to re-glue back on. Cooler turned off once for no apparent reason...not sure why. It does look nice and fit well into exiting spot where 20 year old cooler was installed. I don't particularly like the blue, red and green lights on the front panel. I don't need a lot of storage and as long as it continues to work I am happy with it. December 17, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Warranty Support Looks good... fits space for old trash compactor. Not as noisy as reviews suggest. Compressor went out after unit was in 7 months... but because we had it in storage waiting for completion of kitchen the warranty period expired....They extended warranty... can't say enough about response from Whynter Customer Support. My email to them had immediate response and guidance on return of unit. Used their UPS account my cost was to package unit....cost $35. From day of notification Dec 9 to return with new unit.. Dec 24 they stayed in touch. Reviews of other refers indicate there is some failure of compressors.... given price and response from Company to issues.... this is the right Company to buy your wine refer from.....
