make sure that there are no bottles blocking the fans inside of the cabinet so that the unit can properly circulate the air inside.
set the unit to the lowest temperature after resetting the unit should be cooling. If not, check to make sure that the compressor fan is running, that the compressor is vibrating slightly with a low hum (please see attached picture) and that the front grille is not blocked.
If the compressor is not coming on but the compressor fan is working, listen to the compressor if you hear a faint clicking sound. If so, the compressor starter may need to be replaced. Read Less

Answer:
You can hear it, but it's not going to interrupt conversation or anything like that. I have it in between two cabinets and you can still hear it when compressor runs. It's far quieter than a dishwasher.

Answer:
It is very loud. No, cabinets don't make it better. Also, it broke within 9 months. Still under warranty but customer service is ridiculous. Don't buy this brand.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.4 out of 5 by 66 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Why does anyone keep buying this junk? I bought this early 2015 and like clockwork, 2 months after warranty the compressor is broken. If you are reading this review, it's very simple, THIS COOLER WILL LAST YOU MAYBE 1 1/2 YEARS TOPS AND YOU WILL BE STUCK WITH A LOUSY NON WORKING APPLIANCE. STAY AWAY! October 20, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst purchase ever Purchased this wine cooler new when the kitchen was being remodeled. After one year, the refrigerator stopped working completely. I checked with some companies in Houston Tx to see if they could repair it and no one wants to look at it since Whynter will not release parts to them for repairs. I contacted Whynter and they told me it had to be sent to their California location for repairs. It also has to be shipped in the original container it was purchased in which I don't have. If I had the shipping box it would cost me $270 to send it one way. This is not counting any repair cost and then I also have to pay return shipping which is far less since Whynter ships so much merchandise out daily. This is a worthless until and I will not buy it again nor ever buy any Whynter products. DO NOT buy any Whynter products or you can end up like me. September 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fancy looking in counter wine storage More or less what I was looking for. The price from HD is definitely what I liked best. My first impression after just installing the unit is that it's fairly well made. Holds a good number of bottles. What I think is the best characteristic is the ability to cool fast and to maintain a constant temp over time. That's the whole point of getting a fancy wine fridge. This does it well and I would not hesitate to purchasee it again i f needed. August 15, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed Bought this unit 1 year ago. Kept in storage while new house was being built. Installed it in March of this year. Unit is now dead - runs but no cooling. Compressor, all fans operating-surmise bad compressor valves or plugged cap. tube. Low current draw so compressor is not working (no compression). No response back from Whynter yet. Will follow up if Whynter responses. August 5, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Wine Cooler Unit is pretty much as expected. Fan short-cycles about every 20 seconds, which seems excessive. July 12, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Works ok - but doesn't hold amount of bottes advertised I have had the cooler about a month. It was easy to install however hard (or impossible) to fit all the bottles in as advertised. Bottles don't fit between shelves so I had to remove several shelves. Also, the front decorative metal trim pieces on most shelves came off so I had to re-glue back on. Cooler turned off once for no apparent reason...not sure why. It does look nice and fit well into exiting spot where 20 year old cooler was installed. I don't particularly like the blue, red and green lights on the front panel. I don't need a lot of storage and as long as it continues to work I am happy with it. December 17, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great look! Great look and good quality. Easy to install. I store red and white wines . May 31, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by First wine fridge Bought this wine fridge for a little kitchen area I put in my basement rec room. One problem is the thing runs constantly. The area is heated with a wood stove so sometimes it's a little chilly down there when the stove is not on. The manual says the problem could be that room is too cold. But the problem persists even when the stove is running. Also it sits on a tile floor that is on the concrete so the floor is always on the cold side. Also it's rated as a 33 bottle fridge but that must be 33 really small bottles. With normal sized wine bottles it's probably more like 20-25. It does look good and seem to be built well.
