Is there some secret to attaching the 16 foot drain line/

How far will the pump push water?

We don't have a floor drain in our basement, so I am planning to have someone drill a hole through the basement wall to the outside and drain out via pvc tubing. Will the pump be strong enough to pump up around 15 feet (5 feet vertical)? I am wondering if I would be better off with a separate condenser pump. That way if one breaks I don't have to replace everything.
Asked by: Tink
Never used the pump but before I throw it out I am going to take it apart and try to utilize my $233 pump. Try to look at my one star review review under StilldampandMoldy.

Does this unit feature an AUTO setting that automatically shuts it on or off to maintain humidity level?

Asked by: Question12
Yes. I keep mine at 50% relative humidity and it stays within a range of 48% to 54%.

50-Pint Portable Dehumidifier with Pump, ENERGY STAR is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 85.

I waited years to find a dehumidifier that didn't end up on a recall list. I believe this is one of the few. I contacted manufacturer and they had told me in the 2 years it had been out, had no recalls. We use it in a small bathroom in the winter and will use in our basement in the summer. This unit does a wonderful job, is easy to use. Only complaint I have is that it is so heavy, but I believe they all are and that is just inherent of this type of product. Highly recommend.

Even the high speed fan is quieter than the old one. Pump works great. It goes up 6 feet to the ceiling, then over 5 feet to the basement window. It saves emptying it morning and then at night.

Got use from it for the 2015 season and 2016 season. By season I mean basically from May through October. I did not realize it at the time but the problems started in early September. I cleaned it up and stored for the winter then recently brought it out of storage for this year's use. Just not working any longer. Contacted the Whynter people who were very cordial. The picture shows the "EC" error code indicating a malfunction. Whynter said it is either the compressor or circuit board. The bottom line is that for $125 + $45 shipping they will repair. This means I likely would have to spend $45 to ship to them for a total of $215 to repair an item I paid $233.00. Reading many reviews for most humidifiers many seem to just two years. They seem to built for obsolescense. I wrote Home Depot to let them know about my problem and advise them about the issues with this product. I got a cordial thank you. Bottom line is if you plan to buy one of these then assume it is going to cost you about $120 per year to dehumidify and get no support. The picture shows the "EC" error code indicating a malfunction. Whynter said it is either the compressor or circuit board.

I am responsible for the well being of a 2,200 sq. ft. archival document storage facility located in the humid environment of southeastern Pennsylvania, in which many paper documents are over 100 years old. Maintaining a consistently low relative humidity is essential. The Whynter dehumidifier is quiet—much more quiet than others I've used—and it maintains the humidity within +/- 1% of the desired setting. The built-in purge pump is excellent. Highly recommended.

On August 12, 2016, I ordered the Whynter 50 Pint Portable Dehumidifier (Model RPD-501WP). It arrived on August 19, 2016. I plugged it in and turned it on. The “Eb: error code was displayed, indicating that the drain bucket was removed or was not installed correctly. I made several attempts to remove and reinstall the drain bucket properly, but to no avail…the “Eb” error code continued to be displayed. I contacted the manufacturer and reported the problem on August 29, 2016. Over the next month, the company and I exchanged several phone calls and e-mails. I did the diagnostic work that they required and provided them with all of the information and photos that they requested. Due to higher priority “life” events, I was unable to follow up with them until late December 2016. They consequently sent me two replacement drain buckets, neither of which solved the issue…the “Eb” error code continued to be displayed. Their warranty for this unit states in part: “Should your Whynter portable dehumidifier prove defective within one year from the date of purchase, return the defective part or appliance, freight prepaid (with two months of purchase; after two months to one year, customer will be responsible for freight cost to Whynter’s service department), along with an explanation of the claim to Whynter LLC.” At this point, I decided to either have them repair or replace the unit. They informed me that, even though my original complaint was registered with the two month period, I would have to pay the freight charges to their repair facility because of my delay in following up with them. Based on a quote from UPS’ website, the cost to ship the unit to them is more than the price I paid for it. The company has offered to cover a majority of the cost of shipping the unit to them, but I am not inclined to so since the unit never worked and it was reported to them within their two-month window.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't hesitate to buy this product This dehumidifier, has filled itself over and over, quietly, and efficiently, since I plugged it in. Our last one, which my husband thought was doing a bang up job, was really out of coolant, and doing NOTHING. This model does an efficient job, and I STRONGLY recommend it.

Took about 7 hrs to dry out mildewy basement. When I equipped the pump option, it pretty much outperformed my older 70 pint Keystone dehum. After about 3 weeks of frequent operation, it's seems to be a serious drying machine.
