This dehumidifier, has filled itself over and over, quietly, and efficiently, since I plugged it in. Our last one, which my husband thought was doing a bang up job, was really out of coolant, and doing NOTHING.
This model does an efficient job, and I STRONGLY recommend it.

Absolutely wonderful. Managed to complete dry my basement to the bone. Even the wet spots in the concrete that have been around for years are almost gone. The pump is a must have feature. You'll never need to turn it off to drain it.

The dehumidifier worked great for 12 months and then broke. Now I get an "EC" error code on the display which the owner manual lists as a "Unit Malfunction". Ironically, it stopped working a week after the one-year limited warranty ran out..
When it worked, I really liked it. Especially the internal pump function which I used frequently.
Time to try another brand.

I purchased my Whynter RPD-501WP from Home Depot online. It seemed a good value with the integrated water pump and 50-pint capacity. I had mine running for a collective 3 weeks, powered on, at a steady 55% humidity, at 70 degree F (well within op range)....and then it started posting error codes. Unplug it and try again...same result. The only Whynter customer support option is email, which they did reply within 3-4 days, saying that the "EC" error code is a return event. So, I had to ship the unit to Whynter for RMA, which cost $80 shipping (Oregon to their CA location). Since it was within a year they did send a brand new one at their expense...but, still, just the shipping return brings my total invested cost way up.
Second unit: High hopes. Brand new unit. Plugged it in when the rainy season started 4 months later. It ran for 2 weeks with no issues...I emptied the bucket perhaps twice. Again, well within operating ranges. The filter light came on, so I removed and cleaned it, but it wouldn't go back in because a humidity sensor was lose and in the way...back to customer support and they sent instructions to open the case and correct it...about 1 week email thread. Okay, back and running...1-2 days... Boom...error code "EC". Quite disappointing. I continued the same email string with Whynter from the prior failure, and they informed me that the 1 year warranty did reset with the replacement unit, but with the "EC" error code I have to ship it in. (They only pay free RMA shipping if it is within 2 months). So, that is my experience....go ahead and buy it if you only need a sum 4 weeks of functionality across 2 units, and don't mind burning hours with customer service or throwing extra cash in for shipping.
It takes quite a bit for me to invest energy in a review like this, but hopefully others can factor this into their buying decision, and it was a little cathartic to rant a little just before I eat the $300+ and put the second unit in the trash.

Product works well and as expected. I see a huge difference in the humidity levels in my basement. Should have purchased this sooner.

I purchased one of these 50-pint units two years ago and it lasted only about ten months and was giving an EC code. Contacted Whynter and spent $100 to do a return. They sent me a new replacement and I put it in operation this spring and now in September is also giving an EC code and won't dehumidify. I use this in my 18 by 26 insulated garage to keep the humidity down for the classic car kept in there. The amount of moisture removed has been rather minimal. I won't buy another Whynter product!!!

Just plug it in and hook the drainage hose to a sump or other drain and it does the rest. Mine has been working nonstop for the last month and requires no maintenance other than cleaning the filter screen. Really great unit!

I bought this to try reducing the humidity in my house living area. Worked fine for 2 days w/out hoses connected. Moved to a test area and connected small hose for pump drainage (larger hose for Gravity drain according to manual). Worked fine with pump turned on, pumped into the sink above it. Moved to kitchen on laminated wood floor, set to drain in sink. Next morning water had drained in sink and on floor, which damaged the floor. I had read elsewhere of some problems with leakage when using the pump and thought most likely problem was bad setup - now I'm thinking it's a problem of design or manufacture. Returned unit since I can't afford to debug the problem on my flooring.
If you want a model like this save money and get one without the pump - unless you can drain it by gravity. If you have a really damp basement you'll want a higher capacity unit for that.
