Exhaust hose style

Need to know if the exhaust hose part that goes to the window is ROUND (not ovoid or oblong) as I have crank style casement windows and I need to use a circular saw to cut the fiberglass inserts that I intend to put over the screens. Also, if all your portable conditioners are the same exhaust hose size as I need 3 different size units for different bedrooms. Thanks!
Asked by: Robert
The hose connects to a sliding plastic window adapter that slides to fit most windows. If you are going to cut fiberglass, just cut it to fit the adapter so that the hose can snap into a solid connection.

Eco-Friendly 10000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Dehumidifier is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 53.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cool & Calm... My AC unit arrived in the nick of time, albeit one day later than noted when I purchased it. It does a nice job of cooling one room--I have it in the bedroom. The only glitch was that the hose that was supplied with it was 6" too short to make it to my high window, so I had to purchase the foil type hose (for dryers), and some duct tape. I also had to purchase a longer piece of rubber hose for condensation drainage, as the one that came with it was too short to adequately drain into a container. Also, my window was about 4 inches narrower than the main piece of plastic for the venting hose, so I had to buy a hack saw and shorten it...Just things to keep in mind when ordering. Over all, I am thrilled to know that when a heatwave hits next time, I will be able to chill!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very cool unit, easy to use, works as advertised I have a room that gets pretty hot in the summer even with central AC. The room is a 250 sq ft addition with weak insulation as well as being a long way from the central unit. It was very easy to install the vent tube in the window--I had to saw off a piece of the sliding panel, but that was no problem with a handsaw--took 2 minutes. The room cooled off quickly (it was August in Texas, 100 plus outside), and this guy took the room down from 85+ degrees to anywhere in the 70's I wanted to go. The remote control is very convenient. The unit does make significant noise when running on medium and high speed, but the low speed fan was fine--no problem for business calls conducted on a speaker phone. Works so well it makes me almost look forward to the upcoming summer. Well not really.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Unit VERY happy with proformance Bought this 2 months ago,so glad we did. We use it on our 2nd floor were central air just needs help. This is the second unit of this type that we have owned. This one is far superior to the old one.Love the fact that there is no drip container to empty. Cools our 14x16 bedroom down so we use blankets to sleep. Have recommended to friends and family.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty cool This review is primarily for those who, like me, have never bought an air conditioner and don’t know AC basics. I gave this unit a 4 rating because, as far as I know, it does what an air conditioner is supposed to do. I do not know enough to compare this unit with other brands or models. Main points summary: (If you want to get into the weeds, explanations follow.) • This unit, like most or all, must vent to the outside. • Before purchasing, choose an appropriate space for the unit including vent hose near a window or door. • Installation of the exhaust vent via the included window kit was not difficult. The kit is flexible and holds in place without permanent installation. • The word “portable” in the name is misleading – because once “installed” the unit is not easily transported from room to room, etc. • The unit is heavy and bulky, especially when fully operational. • This unit (and possibly most or all other units) functions with a dehumidifier. You need to drain water periodically or have it do so continuously. • Pay attention (measure) the open room space you want cooled. An under-powered unit in a space that is too large will lower the temperature somewhat but will struggle and fail to reach your desired temperature. • This unit is quite noisy. Other units? Details: Despite the term “portable” in its name, it just isn’t something that I would consider all that portable. Not having seen the machine prior to ordering, I found it heavier and larger than expected. Weight out of the box is 58 lbs. It stands 28” high, 17” wide and 14” deep, which even without the exhaust vent attached is bulkier than most air-purifiers or fans. (see photos.) The unit has good casters making it easy to move around on a flat un-carpeted surface. The exhaust vent hose (approx. 6” diameter) takes up additional space because it comes out of the back and snakes its way to your door or window outlet. There is even more space needed, as I will describe below. Bottom line: before you buy it, make sure you have a convenient space to place the assembled unit by a door or window with access to a grounded 3-prong outlet. I purchased this 10,000 BTU unit for a 1200 s.f. living area, realizing that this small unit rated for 300 s.f. would not sufficiently drop the temperature to perfect levels. In retrospect I would buy a more powerful unit, both to keep the temperatures at a more comfortable level and also to avoid overworking the machine. It kept the room temperature about 3-5 degrees cooler than the non-air conditioned rooms, although 5 degrees hotter than my desired temperature settings. It is comfortable enough sitting close to the machine, certainly making a big difference. But a “portable” AC unit is not the same as forced air in-house air conditioning. Short of a full-blown system, if you want a larger room very cool, pay close attention to how much space you want to cool. At 4X less than its stated capacity, it should not have surprised me that it just doesn’t do as good a job as I had hoped. This unit is designed for a small room or garage. In addition to being an air conditioner, the unit also operates as a dehumidifier. There are 4 modes: Cool, Dry, Auto and Fan. The Auto mode essentially just sets the fan speed and temperature according to your settings. The Fan mode operates the fan only. The Dry mode activates the dehumidifier only. The Cool mode activates BOTH the air conditioner AND dehumidifier. You cannot separate the two functions in the Cool mode. In other words, you can activate the dehumidifier without the air conditioner, but not the other way around. The significance of this operationally is that the unit collects water both on Dry AND also by default on Cool. So whether set on Dry or Cool, the unit must be drained of collected water. Water is drained in one of two ways, manually or continuously. The manual method: When the unit alerts you that it needs to be drained (all functions cease except Fan), move the unit to a drain area (presumably outside) and pull the drain plug at the bottom of the unit. Oddly the plug is at the very bottom, making it impossible to fit much under it to collect the water. I suspect generally, as in my case, this will present a logistical problem unless you can operate the unit close to an outdoor area. Even then you will most likely need to detach the exhaust hose before moving the machine to the drain area, a tedious prospect. The second method, continuous, is far easier: attach the included drain hose to the top drain, inserting the open end of the hose into a “drain area”. Since the included drain hose is an absurdly brief 1’ in length, unless you go through the trouble to purchase a longer hose this effectively limits the “drain area” to a dishpan or bottle immediately in back of the machine, The placement of the “drain area” (i.e., bottle, etc.) in the back of the machine is the additional bulk I referred to earlier. In my situation, a dry climate (around 50% humidity normally), the “drain area” bottle accumulated only about 4 oz. (half a glass) of water after a full day’s work, so the bottle needn’t be that large. INSTALLATION OF EXHAUST HOSE: I have horizontal opening windows so the slider kit had to be installed vertically. The slider is adjustable in approximately 1” increments and will fit most window openings (26.5” to 48”) whether vertical or horizontal. The installation of the slider into the window itself presented no problems. In my case it was not necessary to use the foam seal and tape or to attach the slider with a screw to hold it in place. The window itself braced snugly against the slider was sufficient to do the job. The only minor difficulty I had in the installation process was to securely connect the adaptors to the two ends of the exhaust hose. It took some effort to get them to fit securely enough to avoid popping off while moving the hose into position. MISC: • NOISE: This is a noisy machine, regardless of fan speed, especially in the Cool mode. • HEAT: Some reviews complain that the exhaust pipe gets hot and interferes with the cooling function. I found the pipe was warm but not enough to make a noticeable difference. • REMOTE: The included remote works fine, but unless you are infirm, for the few times you may need to make an adjustment, get off your lazy butt and use the machine controls. You probably have too many remotes as it is. • FILTERS: There are two filters included that need cleaning every few weeks of use. They are washable and the main one is easily removed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solar Capable I took a retired U-Haul truck 7' X 22' & converted it to a livable RV. I insulated it with 4" foam then paneled it. I went with this unit because I have no roof space due to all the solar panel's I have on top & because I didn't want to cut a big hole into the side for a traditional ac window unit either for Stealth reasons. This unit is ideal for RVs, box trucks etc.. With an EER 11.1 Efficiency rating it's easy on both my solar battery bank & back up generator. Darn few of these units have an efficiency over 9 but as said before, this one is 11.1 . Since this is a condensating unit I just ran a drain hose below the chassis 2 foot above the ground.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cold as can be The is one strong little spot cooler. Nice small profile that can fit without obstructing even in a small room. Had no problems with the setup to my window. Easy breezy. It really cools a small room up right quick. It's been a real boon to have. Very very happy with this A/C unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet, cold and great size!! This is my first portable air conditioner purchase and I am glad I picked this one. It is very easy to set up and cools down my den/office very quickly. It is solid and shorter than a lot of other portable air conditioners. It is also quieter than other portables. The self evaporating feature is what won me over!! I am very pleased with my purchase!
