Answer:
An air conditioner functions by "pumping" the heat from the room to the outside. An exhaust hose MUST be connected for it to work at all and an intake hose is required for maximum efficiency.

Answer:
Yes, this unit does require two holes for venting and intake. Dual hose units work more effectively then single hose units in my past experience.
The holes are already built-in on the window vent kit. I had to modify my vent kit because my living room window was not long enough. This was no biggie.

Answer:
There is a window vent kit included with the unit. If I were you I would measure your sliding glass door area and compare to the measurement of the kit. You may have to purchase extra window inserts.

Parts included are only sufficient to install hose kit in either a double hung window or a vertical slider. Extensions will only reach about 4 to 4.5 feet.

Answer:
could be unlikely you will get proper cooling unless intake port brings in fresh air and if you are bringing in fresh air through a nearby window might as well vent out exhaust. my guess is the attic would also be too far away to allow an efficient exhausting.

Hi Mark,
This unit should be vented to the outdoors, if vented to your attic, moisture damage will result.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by It works great if you know the tricks It was delivered on time and undamaged. Works great if you know to insulate the exhaust hose October 4, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by This AC is better than I expected it to work I am very happy with purchasing this portable AC with the dual hoses. The AC was easy to install. I did have to modify the window vent by cutting a new opening for one of the hoses to be inserted into since my living room window was not long enough for both the hoses to be attached with the openings from the manufacturer. This was no big deal, I just use a small power hand saw to cut a new opening. The AC only took four days to be delivered. I just wish portable A/C's were available for in store purchases.. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Adequate and Convenient I like to use free and natural cooling when available - open the windows at night and close in the morning. But that doesn't work every day and maybe doesn't last all day. So now when the inside temperature rises above 75 degrees I switch on the Whynter A/C. Installation was easy although I made an intake/exhaust custom adapter with weather stripping for a tight fit in my sliding window. It easily maintains 75 degrees in kitchen, living room and 1 bedroom while cycling on/off when the temperature outside is 95 degrees. Its not quiet, but no adjustment for conversation or TV volume is necessary while its running. When August is over, I'll just roll it into a closet until its needed next July. Adequate and very convenient. The control (remote for 10 feet or so if you wish) provides all combinations of functions and speeds one might expect. August 4, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fan noisy sound. Air conditioner is working good except the fan sound is noisy. When the compressor is in transition the sound is terrible. Sounds like something is going to break. Overall, if the sound is quieter, it would be perfect. . October 11, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Do not purchase a whynter product I've owned this unit for 9 months. Only ran it for 3 months off and on and was highly disappointed in its cooling power and how noisy it is and also how much energy it uses. To make matters worse the exhaust fan flew into pieces and the compressor started leaking oil and freon. I notified whynter and was told to ship it to them and they would replace it. Which is great until you see the price to ship it! 130.00 dollars and they will not work with you on that. I would strongly suggest you do not purchase this unit or anything from whynter. I hope this review keeps at least one person from having to go through this. January 28, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't waste your money buying one of these. This unit is rated on several websites as the best. Don't believe it. It is very difficult to fit the hoses to a window opening. The least expensive part, the venting hoses, are about 4' not 9' as stated. The unit just doesn't really cool effectively at all and actually increased the humidity in the room. We really gave this a good try in 3 different rooms. Go with a window unit or a through-the-wall type unit. Don't waste your money on one of these. October 7, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Whynter Portable AC unit Bought this unit to cool the lower level of a small mountain A-frame cabin (room size 20 x 35 feet). The house has older slider windows so a free standing unit was the only alternative short of installing an expensive whole house AC system. Great unit, easy to set up, instructions on use were very clear and the remote control is very intuitive (icons). It took about an hour to bring the room down to 74 degrees, remove the humidity and it was able to maintain a steady temperature throughout the day while the outside temperature was in the mid 90's. At night when outside temps were cooler we changed it to the dehumidify only setting and it remained comfortable. Would highly recommend this if you need to cool a relatively small space.
