After less than two years and about two dozen uses the plastic base on this product cracked into many small pieces. I contacted Whynter and was told I must purchase the part because my one year warranty was over. Well, it took over a month for the part to become available, so I could spend $26.50 for nothing. When the part arrived, it was obvious that it was not something I could install myself, as you had to take the gears and who knows what else apart to even get the base off! Home Depot did the right thing and took this poor product back for store credit. I’m still out $26.50 and I really hope Home Depot considers dropping Whynter as a vendor. The Whynter product was poor, as was their customer service.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lebkuchen Best for the price
After trying a few other ice cream makers in the $50 and over range, I settled on the Whynter - and I'm glad I did! The others were very noisy and didn't work well at all. They had removable bowls that had to be frozen overnight, and the mix had to be very cold in order to achieve any kind of solidity. Even then, the product was slushy and had to be frozen. The final product was icy. Very annoying. The Whynter is a one-button affair. Put your mix in the bucket, push the button and walk away. You can time it for as long as you want it to freeze, or, if it's frozen before the time is up, it will automatically turn off while keeping the temperature below freezing. Just the ticket, short of a full-on commercial machine!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jessie Love it!
Both my mom and my sister bought this, so I was slow to catch on but I finally got mine. I was hoping it would go on sale again, but it didn't so I had to bite the bullet and pay full price. I don't know how energy effecient it is which is why I left that part blank. I am a little bit worried that my power bill is going to shoot up. It does get noisy at the end, but if you have a large space you probably won't notice it. My mom has a large kitchen and living room and the noise isn't bad for her, but I have a very small kitchen so I notice it at the end.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by icecream101 Great for ice cream lovers!
I love this machine. It makes wonderful home made icecream quickly and quietly. That is the one thing I really like, it is so quiet when it runs. It also takes less than 1 hour to make a batch of ice cream - my recipe takes about 40-45 mins. The only two downsides I can think of are that it does not make a large amount (although that is OK too because then you always have fresh product) and it did not come with recipes. I would recommend this maker to anyone wanting to upgrade from the ice & salt machines.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by mbvv Works great. Button controls could be better.
This machine makes making ice cream so easy!! I have a small freezer and no room to freeze a bowl, so this works great. The fast cooling with the compressor means you don't even have to cool the heated mixture first before putting it in if your recipe calls for cooking your mix. My only complaint is that the control buttons don't seem to work as described. I haven't been able to extend the time after the timer runs out without restarting completely from scratch (which just means it won't start/continue cooling until two minutes into the process), and also I can't get it to reset by holding down the button as it says in the instructions and have to unplug it to do so. These are pretty minor complaints, though and don't affect the finished ice cream, which has turned out great every time!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Arbee2 Nice machine, but a bit pricey and small capacity.
The machine works fine. A bit noisy, but not beyond tolerable. It would have been better with a bit more capacity. (By the way, if you think you see 1 1/2 qt capacity in any documentation, it's NOT! Maybe 1 1/2 PINTs! Also, the recipe book which you find in pdf format online is for something much larger. They should have matched it to the unit's capacity. Also would be better if there was a fill-line mark somewhere. And, the timer should be more flexible.. but at least it seems to be adequate.
