The pdf instructions have zero information on the thermostat for some reason? Does the thermostat have a timer built in for the unit turning itself off and on automatically at specific times?
Asked by: RemRem
No timer, but it does have a wired external thermostat that you can mount on the side of the unit or on a wall.

Do you sell the propane model as well?

Is that heater available from the factory already set-up for propane?
Asked by: Woodworker53
I bought the natural gas unit, but the instructions show that there is a propane option. You may have figured this out by now.

Can this be installed in a basement?

Only if you can vent horizontally, with the vent about 2'-0" above grade. Here are the installation instructions: http://www.williamscomfortprod.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/DIRECT-VENT-r-3-21-2016P322101.pdf

This gas heater is easy to install and provides warmth without overheating the room. The thermostat makes sure that you have constant heat at the right time. I have one in my bedroom and wanted the same brand for my living room. I live in a tiny house so this heater is perfect for small spaces as it doesn't make you feel confined. In addition to providing excellent, cost-effective heat, it has modern and clean lines that go with any decor. It is also easy to clean. The Hope Depot is the ONLY place that has the Williams gas heater at this great price. I will get one more for my other bedroom for sure.

It does not keep the area an even temp but has to be adjusted relative to outside temps. We are heating an area smaller than what it's rated for in a very well insulated home without drafts. We had it professionally installed and placed the thermostat in the recommended location. Also, this model WILL NOT accept a blower. The listing states that there is an optional blower you can purchase and it does work with the higher BTU version but there are no "punch-outs" on this model to allow any blower to be installed.

I purchased this furnace to replace an 18 year old Williams furnace that was much the same. The only difference between the two that I could see, was that the new one has a thermostat that is separate from the actual unit which is an overall improvement, I think. I attempted to have the old one serviced, but the repair person said the parts he needed to access were sealed up and not accessible to do maintenance on. He found that annoying and frustrating. I read the review on the optional blower unit that comes from Williams and decided a wire rack with a cheap oscillating fan would function the same as the blower unit and cost less...so that's what I did. It may not look as aesthetically pleasing as the Williams blower unit, but it does the job of distribution the heat throughout the room, and I don't much care how it looks in the shop. I like the furnace because it doesn't require electricity to work, and it doesn't take up a lot of space. It heats my 400 square foot shop just fine. Also, I couldn't find many alternatives out there. As long as you have access to natural gas, and a good place to vent the furnace, I would recommend this unit for anyone who has a garage or shop they want to heat. The flame is adjustable and so is the pilot and might need adjusting upon installation. The instructions that come with the unit are pretty clear in that regard.

Ordered on the phone with Home Depot, it was an easy transaction and pick up process. I hope this wall furnace last longer then the one we are replacing. Our last wall furnace was identical to this one and the gas valve went in 3 years. The gas valve would have cost close to half the price of a new unit so we purchased a new furnace and are giving Williams another try. When it works we really like the unit. It heats our garage to a very comfortable temperature. Our original Williams wall furnace was purchased in the 80's and worked great for 25 years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Small but hot For a 14k btu unit, this heater pumps out a good amount of heat for a semi insulated 23'x23' garage. It brought the garage to 84° when it was 39° outside. Installation was easy, it took me 4 hours because I wanted the vent to look clean on the outside. I mounted a small fan($20) 3' from heater to distribute the hot air. Con Where the gas is going in, there should be a cut out in the housing to bring a pipe straight in.

When I installed it I could not get the pilot to stay lit. I emailed the company and the service rep was able to troubleshoot it and found I had a bad thermostat wire. Replaced it and it works perfect. I would recommend the unit for anyone. It is in my wife's welding shop. A++++

Very easy to install ... at least the furnace itself. Running the gas line was another matter. Installed in fall of 2016 and been running flawlessly all winter. Looking for another (bigger) one for another outbuilding.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent heater but has its flaws I bought this heater to replace an older Williams heater. In another room I have this model's big brother, the 30,000 btu model. The description for this 14,000 model says that it has a ceramic coated firebox, just as my larger unit does. This was important to me because my larger Williams is almost silent. Unfortunately the 14,000 btu model does NOT have this coating, contrary to the description. Unlike the firebox looking like the porcelain interior of an oven, it is just bare stainless steel. Therefore it is quite noisy while heating up and cooling down. I ended up keeping the unit because I had already removed the old unit and had a hole in my wall in the middle of winter. It works well, gives me much more even heating than the old model did---it's just noisy. I expect that in perhaps 5-8 years it will become even more noisy, like the old one did, and have to be replaced. If you can live with the noise (ticking as it heats up or cools down), then I would otherwise recommend it. Oh and for goodness'sake, buy yourself a digital thermostat to use with this---the one that comes with it is inaccurate and cheap.
