size of ac unit needed

I have a two story home with 16 hundred square feet. HOW BIG OF A UNIT WILL I need?
Asked by: Charlie
I'm Not a Pro' but rough estimate can be from 32k-50k BTU 2 stage blower /Fan System Programable Thermostat Might even be better off with 2 Units. Larger One for the Upstairs and smaller BTU for Downstairs. Spend some $ 1st on Insulating Having the Attic well ventilated ( enough Mushroom Vents) Adding a Gable End Fan or Ridge Vent to the Roof Adding additional Shade Trees on the South and West side of the house and get at least 2 different Pro's/Firm and brands for estimates The HD is a Great place to start .. Spend the extra $ for the Best , since it can last 10-20 yrs . ! So divide your cost over at least 10 yrs ( I use 15 yrs) ave life CPY ( Cost Per yr) before needing to replace it. I start saving for that Replacement unit my 2nd yr-15th yr +5% more , so I have Most of the $ there when I will need it. I also have Insurance Back up ! a Large WIndow A/C ! 12-15k that will fit in in a Upstairs window that will blow the A/C into the Hallway and using smaller Fans to blow into each Bedroom and the Colder Air will drift Down into the Bottom Floor and a fan(s) for downstairs) that will cool the House Suffeciently until Can get the Central A/C Fixed. For when your AS/C goes out is usually the Hottest time of the season and How much will a Window A/C cost vs having to Either Swelter in your Home or Have to go Rent a Hotel room per nite? Window A/C costing ave of $400? VS... Hotel room for a family of 4 , costing Ave of $200 per Nite? x ave of 3 nites? + Eating out? + another $100 a Day = $300 day min. and the hassle of Packing a Wknd Travel Bags for you and your family? asnd the Inconvience of having to stay in a Hotel and traveling back and forth to the House..? and don't wait until Need that Window A/C, for if oyu do? Odds are the Stores will be sold out due to it being the hottest time of the Yr! Hope that helps

Does this cover 1800 square feet?

Asked by: Ceezee
This is not the proper size for 1800 sq. ft. Please give us a call at 800-879-0123 so that we can suggest the best fit for your applications. Not only is the proper ton size important, but we must know the location of your home to make sure the proper efficiency (13 or 14 SEER) is installed to meet the federal standards.
