Hello Sharon, I’m Chris from the Home Depot’s how-to Community. Thank you for your question.
Furnace installation is not normally a DIY project. Please peruse the installation instructions to get an idea of the kinds of work involved. In addition, this project will require a building permit and inspection.
Note the comment in the overview section: “Equipment should be sized, selected and installed by a qualified professional to ensure proper installation, safe operation, adherence to federal, state and local codes and for valid warranty; see installation guide for more details.”
The labor and additional parts cost to install a furnace will vary considerably based on your particular home, and what is being replaced.
I hope this helps,
Chris.

Knowing the sq. ft. is a good start. For this large of an application, it would be best to have 2 systems to make sure you have even comfort. We would need to know more about the home to help you. Plus, duct work and your current electric service needs to be considered. Please give us a call at 800-879-0123 so we can assist you.

This is a very common question that our customer service department is asked. This modular air handler/electric furnace is multi-positional, and as pictured has a top supply opening and bottom return air opening which is hidden from view. When the electric furnace is being used in an upflow application, this unit is designed to be used with a return air box, item # 202771116, and return air drop assembly, item # 202771103. The return air drop assembly has an air filter rack to accommodate a 1" x 16" x 25" air filter. In other applications, such as downflow or horizontal, it is typically best to have a local sheet metal shop make a return air assembly with external air filter rack that will fit to the dimensions of the electric furnace/modular air handler and meet the minimum CFM requirements (800 CFM in this case). To further discuss your application and for more specific details, please feel free to contact one of our customer service representatives at 800-879-0123. Read Less
